Word Meanings:

By Allah," a solemn oath emphasizing the certainty of the statement.
I will surely devise a plan" or "I will surely plot," meaning to outwit or overcome the idols through a clever scheme.
  • أَصْنَامَكُم — "your idols," the carved statues they worshipped besides Allah.
  • بَعْدَ أَن تُوَلُّوا مُدْبِرِينَ — "after you turn your backs and go away," referring to when they would leave for their festival.

Explanation of the Verse:

This verse captures a moment of profound courage and unwavering faith from Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham, peace be upon him). He had just confronted his people about their worship of lifeless idols, and now, in a quiet but resolute tone—spoken so that his people would not hear him directly—he swore by Allah: "By Allah, I will surely carry out a plan against your idols after you turn your backs and depart."

Ibrahim’s intention was not to destroy for the sake of destruction, but to prove to his people the absurdity of worshipping objects that could not protect themselves. He knew they would leave for their festival, and he planned to smash the idols, leaving only the largest one intact so that he could later point them to it and ask: "Ask it, if it can speak!" This was a brilliant, divinely inspired strategy to awaken their minds and hearts to the truth of Allah’s Oneness.

The verse demonstrates Ibrahim’s deep reliance on Allah, his wisdom in dealing with his people, and his willingness to take a stand against falsehood, even at great personal risk. It also shows that true faith is not passive—it requires action, courage, and cleverness in calling others to the truth.

A Da’wah Reflection:

This verse teaches us that calling people to Allah requires both sincerity and wisdom. Ibrahim did not merely argue—he acted, and his action was designed to make his people think. As believers, we too are invited to be proactive in our faith, to use our intellect and resources to break down the "idols" of our time—whether they are materialism, arrogance, or blind following of tradition—and to do so with love and wisdom, always trusting that Allah is with those who strive for His cause. Let this verse inspire you to stand firmly for the truth, even when you stand alone, and to trust that Allah will guide your efforts to success.

📜 Verse 55-59 — Al-Anbiya

They said, "Have you come to us with truth, or are you of those who jest?"
He said, "[No], rather, your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth who created them, and I, to that, am of those who testify.
And [I swear] by Allah, I will surely plan against your idols after you have turned and gone away."
So he made them into fragments, except a large one among them, that they might return to it [and question].
They said, "Who has done this to our gods? Indeed, he is of the wrongdoers."
