Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- Fatarahunna (فَطَرَهُنَّ): Created them innovatively, bringing them into existence from nothing, without any prior example or model.
- Ash-Shahidin (الشَّاهِدِينَ): Those who bear witness, affirm, and testify with certainty to the truth of what is being said.
Tafsir (Explanation):
In this verse, Prophet Ibrahim (peace be upon him) responds to his people’s rejection of his call to monotheism. When they dismissed his message, he firmly declared: "Rather, your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth, who created them innovatively." He was not jesting or speaking lightly — he came with absolute seriousness and truth. He made it clear that the only true deity worthy of worship is the One who originated the heavens and the earth, bringing them into existence from nothing, with perfect wisdom and design. The idols his people worshipped had no share whatsoever in this creation — they were merely carved stones, unable to create, provide, or even protect themselves.
Then Ibrahim added: "And I am among the witnesses to this." He bore witness with full certainty and conviction that Allah alone is the Creator, Sustainer, and Sovereign of all that exists. His testimony was not based on blind faith alone, but on profound reflection, sound reasoning, and divine guidance. He stood as a living witness to the oneness of Allah, challenging the falsehood of shirk (polytheism) with clarity and courage.
This verse carries a powerful lesson for every believer: the universe itself is a living proof of its Creator. Every star in the sky, every mountain on earth, every breath we take — all testify to the greatness of Allah. How then can a rational person worship the creation while denying the Creator? How can one bow to lifeless idols while ignoring the One who fashioned the heavens and the earth with perfect precision?
Dear reader, let this verse awaken your heart. Look around you — the vast skies, the solid earth, the intricate systems of nature — all of them point to a single, magnificent Creator. Your Lord is not a stone or a statue; He is the Living, the Sustainer, the Originator of all things. And like Ibrahim, you too can bear witness to this truth — not just with your tongue, but with your actions, your gratitude, and your devotion. When you recognize your true Lord, your life gains purpose, your heart finds peace, and your worship becomes pure and meaningful. This is the essence of Islam: to know your Creator, to love Him, and to live in submission to His will. And there is no greater honor than to be among those who bear witness to His oneness, just as Ibrahim did.
