Word Meanings:

  • عَاصِفَةً (ʿĀṣifah): A violent, fiercely blowing wind.
(Tajrī bi-amrih): It runs and flows by his command, i.e., at his will and direction.
(Ilā al-arḍi allatī bāraknā fīhā): To the land We have blessed — referring to the region of Ash-Shām (Greater Syria, including Palestine), the land of the prophets and abundant goodness.

Explanation of the Verse:

In this verse, Allah reminds us of another magnificent favor He bestowed upon His prophet Sulaymān (Solomon, peace be upon him). Allah subjected the wind to him — not just a gentle breeze, but a violent, stormy wind (ʿāṣifah) that would carry him and his companions swiftly across vast distances. This wind did not move on its own; it flowed precisely by Sulaymān’s command, taking him wherever he wished, particularly to the blessed land of Ash-Shām — the land where many prophets were sent and where divine blessings of agriculture, water, and spiritual significance were poured forth.

This was no ordinary travel. It was a miracle of divine power, demonstrating that Allah grants His chosen servants mastery over natural forces that defy human capability. The wind, which can be destructive and uncontrollable, became a submissive carrier for a righteous king and prophet. Sulaymān could travel in a single morning what would take others months, all by the permission and arrangement of Allah.

The verse concludes with a profound statement: "And We were, of everything, Knowing" (wa kunnā bikulli shayʾin ʿālimīn). This is not merely an afterthought — it is the very foundation of the miracle. Allah’s perfect knowledge encompasses every detail of creation: the movement of the wind, the needs of His servant, the timing of the journey, and the wisdom behind each command. Nothing escapes His awareness, and His actions are always based on perfect wisdom and justice.

A Daʿwah Reflection:

This verse invites us to reflect on the limitless power and knowledge of Allah. If He could tame a raging wind for His prophet, then no obstacle in your life is too great for Him to remove. The same Allah who commanded the wind to carry Sulaymān is fully aware of your struggles, your prayers, and your hopes. He knows what you need before you even ask, and He arranges your affairs with perfect wisdom — even when you cannot see the bigger picture.

Moreover, Sulaymān’s story teaches us that true greatness lies not in accumulating power for selfish ends, but in using every blessing to serve Allah and benefit humanity. When we align our will with Allah’s command, as the wind aligned with Sulaymān’s, our lives flow smoothly toward goodness and blessing. So turn to Allah with trust, knowing that His knowledge encompasses everything about you, and His mercy is ready to guide you to the blessed land of His pleasure — both in this world and the next.

📜 Verse 79-83 — Al-Anbiya

And We gave understanding of the case to Solomon, and to each [of them] We gave judgement and knowledge. And We subjected the mountains to exalt [Us], along with David and [also] the birds. And We were doing [that].
And We taught him the fashioning of coats of armor to protect you from your [enemy in] battle. So will you then be grateful?
And to Solomon [We subjected] the wind, blowing forcefully, proceeding by his command toward the land which We had blessed. And We are ever, of all things, Knowing.
And of the devils were those who dived for him and did work other than that. And We were of them a guardian.
And [mention] Job, when he called to his Lord, "Indeed, adversity has touched me, and you are the Most Merciful of the merciful."
