Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- Al-Salihat (الصالحات): Righteous deeds — actions that are sound, good, and in accordance with Allah’s commands and the teachings of His Messenger.
- Kufran (كفران): Denial, rejection, or ingratitude — here it means that the effort will not be denied its due reward or treated with ingratitude.
- Sa'y (سعي): Effort, striving, or endeavor — referring to the good deeds one performs with sincere intention.
- Katibun (كاتبون): Recorders — the angels appointed by Allah who write down every deed of a person.
Explanation of the Verse:
This noble verse brings a message of immense hope and divine justice. Allah Almighty declares that whoever performs righteous deeds — whether great or small — while being a true believer in Allah, His messengers, and the Last Day, will never have their effort wasted or denied. The word "kufran" here means that Allah will not reject, nullify, or treat with ingratitude the sincere striving of a believer. Rather, Allah — out of His infinite generosity and mercy — will multiply their reward many times over, far beyond what they deserve.
The verse emphasizes two essential conditions for the acceptance of deeds: first, the deed itself must be righteous and in accordance with Allah’s guidance; and second, the person must be a believer — for deeds without faith are like a body without a soul, and faith without deeds is like a claim without proof. When both are combined, Allah guarantees that nothing will be lost.
Then Allah says: "And indeed, We are for him recorders." This is a profound reassurance — every single act of goodness, every moment of striving, every hidden charity, every quiet prayer, every tear shed in devotion — is being meticulously recorded by the angels appointed by Allah. Nothing escapes His knowledge, and nothing is too small to be noted. On the Day of Resurrection, the believer will find their complete record before them, and they will rejoice at what they see, for Allah will have preserved every good deed and multiplied its reward.
A Call to Faith and Action:
Dear reader, reflect on the beauty of this divine promise! Your Lord — the Creator of the heavens and the earth — has pledged that your sincere efforts will never be in vain. Even if no one on earth acknowledges your goodness, even if people forget your kindness, your Lord remembers. He has appointed angels to record your deeds, and He Himself watches over your striving with perfect justice and boundless mercy.
This verse invites you to combine faith with action — to believe in your heart and to work with your limbs. Do not despair if your deeds seem small; in Allah’s scale, a sincere deed, however tiny, can outweigh mountains of negligence. And do not delay — every moment is an opportunity to add to your record of goodness. Strive today, with faith in your heart, and trust that your Lord will never let your effort go to waste. Indeed, He is the Most Generous, the Most Appreciative, and His promise is true.
