Tafsir (Explanation):
This verse delivers a profound and decisive message about the purity of monotheism (Tawhid) — the very heart of Islam. Allah, the Most Just and All-Knowing, declares that whoever calls upon or worships any deity alongside Him — whether it be an idol, a prophet, a saint, a celestial body, or any created being — without any proof or rational basis for doing so, has committed a grave transgression. The phrase "no proof for it" is not merely a condition; it is a statement of reality. For there can never be any genuine evidence for worshipping anything other than Allah, the Creator and Sustainer of all existence. Every false deity, by its very nature, lacks the power to create, provide, or answer prayers, and thus any claim to its divinity is baseless.
The verse then states that the reckoning of such a person rests entirely with Allah, his Lord. This is both a warning and a comfort. It is a warning that no one will escape divine justice — every act of worship directed to other than Allah will be accounted for with perfect fairness. And it is a comfort to the believers, assuring them that the ultimate judgment belongs to Allah alone, and He never wrongs anyone. On that Day, the truth will be fully manifest, and every soul will receive what it has earned.
Finally, the verse closes with an emphatic and universal truth: "Indeed, the disbelievers will never succeed." This means they will not achieve their hopes, their efforts will bear no fruit, and they will not escape the punishment they fear. True success — the success of the Hereafter — is reserved exclusively for those who worship Allah alone, with sincerity and devotion.
A Call to Reflection and Faith:
Dear reader, reflect on the beauty of this message. Allah does not force anyone to believe, but He clearly warns that false worship leads only to loss. Yet, He opens the door of mercy for all who turn back to Him. The Qur'an repeatedly invites humanity to use their intellect, to observe the universe, and to recognize that only the Creator deserves our worship. So, purify your heart, direct your prayers to Allah alone, and you will find peace in this life and eternal success in the next. For He is the Only One who hears, answers, and never disappoints those who sincerely call upon Him.
