Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- Al-Haqq (الحق): Here refers to Allah Himself, the Absolute Truth.
- Ahwa'ahum (أهواءهم): Their whims, desires, and personal inclinations.
- Dhikrihim (ذكرهم): Their reminder, honor, and glory — referring to the Qur'an.
- Mu'ridun (معرضون): Turning away, heedless, avoiding.
Explanation of the Verse:
If Allah — the Absolute Truth — were to follow the whims and desires of the disbelievers and polytheists, and were to run the universe according to their wishes — such as their demand to associate partners with Him, or to change the laws of right and wrong to suit their fancies — then the heavens, the earth, and all that dwells within them would fall into complete corruption and ruin. This is because human beings, with their limited knowledge and flawed judgment, do not perceive the true consequences of things. They do not know what brings benefit and what brings harm, what is sound and what is corrupt in the management of this vast creation. Only Allah, the All-Knowing and All-Wise, possesses the perfect knowledge to govern the universe with justice and wisdom.
Yet, despite this, Allah did not leave humanity without guidance. He sent them the Qur'an — a Book that contains their true honor, their dignity, and their remembrance. It is the very means of their elevation in this world and their salvation in the Hereafter. It reminds them of their Lord, their purpose, their destiny, and the path to eternal success. But astonishingly, they turn away from this very source of their own glory and well-being, neglecting it and refusing to heed its call.
A Call to Reflection:
Dear reader, pause and reflect: The Qur'an is not merely a book of stories or laws — it is your own honor and remembrance. It is the key to your happiness in both worlds. When you turn away from it, you turn away from your own elevation. When you embrace it, you embrace the very light that illuminates your path. Allah, in His infinite mercy, has given you a guide that suits your nature and protects you from corruption. So why turn away from that which brings you life? Open your heart to the Qur'an, and you will find in it the answer to every question, the cure for every ailment, and the honor that no worldly status can ever provide. Let it be your companion, and you will never be lost.
