📖 English Meaning
Allah has not taken any son, nor has there ever been with Him any deity. [If there had been], then each deity would have taken what it created, and some of them would have sought to overcome others. Exalted is Allah above what they describe [concerning Him].

Key Words and Their Meanings:

  • "Walad" (وَلَد): Offspring, son, or child — used here to negate any notion of God having a biological or adopted child.
  • "Ilah" (إِلَٰه): A deity or god worthy of worship — here referring to any partner or rival in divinity.
  • "Dhahaba" (ذَهَبَ): To go away with, to take away, or to depart with something exclusively.
  • "La'ala" (لَعَلَا): To rise above, to overcome, or to exalt oneself over another — implying dominance and conflict.
  • "Subhan Allah" (سُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ): Glory be to Allah — a declaration of His absolute perfection and transcendence above any imperfection or false attribution.
  • "Yasifun" (يَصِفُونَ): What they describe or attribute — referring to the false claims of the polytheists.

Explanation of the Verse:

This noble verse strikes at the very heart of monotheism (Tawhid) and demolishes any notion of God having a partner or a child. Allah declares with absolute clarity: He has never taken a son, nor has there ever been any deity alongside Him. This is not merely a denial — it is a logical and rational proof that leaves no room for doubt.

Think about it: if there were truly more than one god, each would claim exclusive ownership over what he created. Each would want to be supreme, and none would accept another sharing his authority. This would inevitably lead to rivalry, conflict, and chaos — each god trying to overpower the other, just as kings and rulers of this world compete and fight for dominance. The heavens and the earth would fall into utter disorder, and the perfect harmony we observe in the universe would be shattered.

But look around you! The sun rises and sets with precision, the stars follow their courses, the seasons change in perfect order, and every creature lives and dies according to a flawless system. This magnificent order is living proof that there is only One Creator, One Sustainer, One God — Allah alone, with no partner and no equal.

So when the polytheists claim that Allah has a son or a partner, they are describing Him with attributes that befit created beings, not the Creator. Allah is far above and utterly free from such imperfections. He is the One, the Eternal, the Self-Sufficient — He does not beget, nor is He begotten, and there is nothing comparable to Him.

A Call to Reflection and Faith:

Dear reader, let this verse awaken your heart. The unity of Allah is not just a theological concept — it is the foundation of peace in your soul and harmony in the universe. When you recognize that there is no god but Allah, your heart finds rest, your purpose becomes clear, and your worship becomes pure. The polytheists of old invented partners for Allah out of ignorance and desire, but the truth is simple and beautiful: Allah is One, and to Him alone belongs all worship.

Let this certainty fill you with awe and love. Glorify Him as He deserves, and distance yourself from every false belief that diminishes His majesty. For He is the Most High, the Most Great — far above anything they describe.
