Word Meanings:

  • "Fa qulnā" – So We said.
  • "Idhhabā" – Go, both of you (addressed to Moses and Aaron, peace be upon them).
  • "Al-qawm" – The people (specifically Pharaoh and his chiefs, the Copts of Egypt).
  • "Kadhdhabū bi-āyātinā" – They denied and rejected Our signs, proofs, and miracles.
  • "Fa dammarnāhum tadmīran" – So We destroyed them completely, with utter and total annihilation.

Explanation of the Verse:

After Allah had granted Moses the Torah and appointed his brother Aaron as a supporter and helper for him, He commanded them both with a clear and decisive mission: "Go to the people who have rejected Our signs." These were Pharaoh and his nation—the Copts of Egypt—who stubbornly denied the clear evidences of Allah's oneness, His power, and His exclusive right to worship. They saw the miraculous signs—the staff turning into a serpent, the shining hand, and the plagues—yet they persisted in disbelief and arrogance.

The two noble prophets obeyed their Lord's command without hesitation. They went to Pharaoh and his people, calling them to the worship of Allah alone, to abandon their polytheism and tyranny, and to submit to their Creator. They delivered the message with wisdom and patience, but the people responded with rejection and mockery. They refused to believe, and their hearts were sealed with pride.

So what was the outcome? Allah destroyed them completely—an utter destruction that left no trace of their power or glory. Their wealth, their armies, their palaces—all were wiped out, and they were drowned in the sea as a lesson for all of humanity. This is the fate of those who reject the signs of Allah after they have been clearly shown the truth.

A Call to Reflection:

Dear reader, this verse carries a profound lesson for every soul. Allah sent His prophets with mercy and guidance, not to oppress or coerce, but to invite people to the path of salvation. Yet when the truth is rejected with arrogance and persistence, the justice of Allah prevails, and the destruction that follows is a reminder of His absolute power.

How beautiful is the path of faith! It is the path that leads to peace in this life and eternal bliss in the Hereafter. The prophets endured hardship and sacrifice to convey the message of monotheism—the message that there is no god but Allah. When you embrace this truth and live by it, you align yourself with the purpose of your creation, and you earn the love of your Lord.

Do not be like those who saw the signs and still turned away. Open your heart to the light of the Qur'an, for it is the ultimate sign that remains with us today. Every verse is an invitation to reflect, to believe, and to draw closer to your Creator. The destruction of Pharaoh's people was not merely a historical event—it is a timeless warning that no power, no wealth, and no status can protect a person from the justice of Allah if they reject His message.

So hasten to the mercy of Allah before it is too late. He is Al-Ghafūr (The Oft-Forgiving), Ar-Raḥīm (The Most Merciful), and His door of repentance is open until the moment of death. Do not let pride or worldly distractions keep you from the truth, for the success of this life and the next lies in submitting to the One who created you and sustains you.
