Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- As-Sayyi'ah (السَّيِّئَة): The evil deed, primarily referring to shirk (associating partners with Allah) and major sins/disobedience.
- Kubbat (فَكُبَّتْ): They were thrown down headfirst, cast facedown.
- Tujzawna (تُجْزَوْنَ): You are recompensed or rewarded.
Tafsir (Explanation):
This verse paints a vivid and sobering picture of the Day of Judgment for those who choose the path of evil. Allah tells us that whoever comes before Him with evil deeds—the greatest of which is shirk (associating partners with Allah), along with all acts of disobedience and transgression—will face a terrifying consequence: they will be thrown headfirst into the Fire, their faces cast down in humiliation and disgrace.
Imagine the scene: a person who spent their life arrogantly turning away from their Creator, now being dragged and flung onto their face into the blazing inferno. This is not merely physical punishment—it is profound humiliation. The face, which is the most honored part of a human being, is the very part that will be cast into the Fire. This is a direct contrast to the believers, whose faces will be radiant and honored in Paradise.
Then comes the piercing question addressed to them, a rebuke that cuts to the soul: *"Are you recompensed except for what you used to do?"* This is not a question seeking information—it is a statement of perfect justice. They are not being wronged; they are simply receiving the exact outcome of their own choices. Every sin, every act of disobedience, every moment of heedlessness—all of it is now manifesting before them as the very fire that surrounds them.
A Call to Reflection:
Dear reader, this verse is a wake-up call from the Most Merciful. Allah does not want anyone to face this fate. He sent His messengers, revealed His books, and gave us countless chances to turn back to Him. The fact that He is telling us about this punishment now, before it happens, is itself a sign of His immense mercy. He is saying: *"I am warning you so that you may save yourselves."*
The door of repentance is open until the moment of death. No matter how many sins you have committed, no matter how deep you have fallen into error, Allah's mercy is vaster. One sincere "Astaghfirullah" (I seek Allah's forgiveness) can erase a lifetime of mistakes. Do not let Shaytan deceive you into despair—for despair itself is a sin. Run to Allah now, before the day comes when faces are cast into the Fire and the question is asked with no time left to answer. Choose the path that leads to radiant faces in Paradise, not the path that ends in humiliation and flame.
