Explanation of the Verse:
When the mother of Moses (peace be upon him) placed her infant son in the river, her heart was filled with both fear and unwavering trust in Allah. She had received Allah's promise that her son would be returned to her and made one of His messengers. To ensure she could keep a watchful eye on the outcome, she instructed her daughter—the sister of Moses—saying: "Follow his trace." This was a command to discreetly track where the basket would go and observe what would happen to the child.
The sister obeyed and watched from a distance, keeping herself hidden and careful not to raise any suspicion. She saw the basket being carried by the water until it reached the palace of Pharaoh, where it was picked up by the household. All the while, Pharaoh and his people had no idea that this young girl was the sister of the baby, nor did they realize she was watching over him and following his news. Their lack of awareness was part of Allah's divine plan—He had sealed their hearts from perceiving the truth, so that His promise to the mother of Moses would be fulfilled, and the child would be raised in the very house of his enemy, protected by Allah's unseen care.
A Da'wah Reflection:
This scene from the life of Moses (peace be upon him) is a profound lesson in trust and reliance on Allah. The mother of Moses was commanded to cast her child into the river—a seemingly impossible act for any mother—yet she did so with faith, and Allah did not abandon her. He placed her son in the care of the very tyrant who sought to kill him, and He returned the child to her arms, as He had promised.
Dear believer, when you place your affairs in Allah's hands, He opens doors you could never imagine. The same Allah who protected a helpless infant in a wooden box on a river, who blinded the eyes of a mighty empire from seeing the truth, is the One who watches over you today. No matter how difficult your circumstances may seem, know that Allah's plan is perfect. He sees your tears, hears your prayers, and will never forsake you. So hold firm to your trust in Him, and let your heart find peace in His promise—for His help is always near, even when you cannot see it.
