Translation — Tafsir

Word Meanings:

  • "مِّنْ أَقْصَى الْمَدِينَةِ" – from the farthest end of the city.
  • "يَسْعَىٰ" – hastening, running with urgency.
  • "الْمَلَأُ" – the chiefs, nobles, and leaders of Pharaoh’s court.
  • "يَأْتَمِرُونَ بِكَ" – they are conspiring and taking counsel together regarding you.
  • "فَاخْرُجْ" – so leave (the city) immediately.
  • "مِنَ النَّاصِحِينَ" – among those who sincerely wish you well and advise you out of compassion.

Explanation of the Verse:

After the news of Musa (peace be upon him) having killed the Coptic man spread through the city, Pharaoh and his inner circle were enraged and plotted to kill him. In that moment of grave danger, Allah’s mercy appeared in the form of a believing man from the farthest part of the city who came running—not walking, but hastening with urgency—because he feared for Musa’s life. He had taken a shorter, quicker route to reach Musa before the killers could.

This man, a sincere believer from Pharaoh’s own people, delivered the critical warning: "O Musa, the chiefs of Pharaoh’s court are taking counsel together about you, conspiring to kill you. So leave the city at once." He did not merely deliver the news and walk away; he added, "Indeed, I am among those who sincerely advise you," meaning: I am not just informing you—I genuinely care about your safety, and my advice is born out of true compassion and concern for your life.

This verse reveals several profound lessons:

  1. Allah’s protection is always near. Even when the entire apparatus of a tyrant’s state is mobilized against a single believer, Allah sends help from unexpected directions—here, a single man from the enemy’s own camp became the instrument of Musa’s salvation.
  2. The value of sincere advice. This man risked his own life by revealing the conspiracy. He could have stayed silent, but his faith compelled him to act. True faith is not merely belief in the heart; it is action that protects and supports the righteous.
  3. Wisdom in times of danger. The advice was not to fight or confront, but to leave—a strategic retreat. Islam teaches that preserving life is paramount, and fleeing from certain harm is not cowardice but wisdom when the outcome of confrontation is known to be fatal.
  4. The believer’s role in every society. Even within Pharaoh’s court, there was a man of faith who secretly supported Musa. This shows that the seeds of truth exist even in the darkest environments, and believers must be ready to act when the opportunity arises.

Dear reader, reflect on this scene: a lone man running through the streets of a hostile city, driven by nothing but love for truth and concern for a prophet of Allah. This is the spirit of true brotherhood in faith—when you see your brother in danger, you do not hesitate, you do not calculate the cost, you simply act. This is the character Islam builds in its followers: selfless, courageous, and always on the side of truth, even when the whole world seems against it.

And note how Allah, the Most Merciful, did not abandon His prophet in that moment of crisis. He sent a helper, and through that helper, He saved Musa to continue his mission. So trust in Allah, for His help always arrives—sometimes from places you would never expect.

📜 Verse 18-22 — Al-Qasas

And he became inside the city fearful and anticipating [exposure], when suddenly the one who sought his help the previous day cried out to him [once again]. Moses said to him, "Indeed, you are an evident, [persistent] deviator."
And when he wanted to strike the one who was an enemy to both of them, he said, "O Moses, do you intend to kill me as you killed someone yesterday? You only want to be a tyrant in the land and do not want to be of the amenders."
And a man came from the farthest end of the city, running. He said, "O Moses, indeed the eminent ones are conferring over you [intending] to kill you, so leave [the city]; indeed, I am to you of the sincere advisors."
So he left it, fearful and anticipating [apprehension]. He said, "My Lord, save me from the wrongdoing people."
And when he directed himself toward Madyan, he said, "Perhaps my Lord will guide me to the sound way."
