Translation — Tafsir

Word Meanings:

  • Nafsan (نَفْسًا): A soul, a person, a human being.
  • Yaqtuloon (يَقْتُلُونِ): They will kill me.

Tafsir (Explanation):

Prophet Musa (Moses, peace be upon him) stood before his Lord, humbly and earnestly, presenting his concern with complete honesty and trust. He said: "My Lord, I have killed a person from among them" — referring to the Egyptian man who had died as a result of Musa's unintentional strike during a fight with an Israelite, before Musa fled from Egypt. He did not hide this fact from Allah, nor did he make excuses, because he knew that Allah is fully aware of all things, and that sincerity in supplication is the key to divine response.

Then he expressed his fear: "So I fear that they will kill me" — meaning that if he were to go to Pharaoh and his people with the message of truth, they might seize him and execute him in retaliation for that life. This was not a fear born of cowardice or lack of faith, but rather a natural human concern that he laid before his Creator, seeking His protection and guidance. It also reflects his deep sense of responsibility — he wanted to ensure that the mission of calling to Allah would be carried out effectively, and he feared that his death before delivering the message would leave the task incomplete.

This verse teaches us a profound lesson: even the greatest prophets experienced human emotions and fears, and they turned to Allah with complete transparency. They did not rely on their own strength alone, but sought Allah's help, support, and reassurance. This is the essence of true servitude — acknowledging one's limitations and placing full trust in the Almighty.

The beauty of this supplication lies in its sincerity. Musa did not deny his past, nor did he minimize his mistake. Instead, he combined his confession with his plea for help, showing us that the path to Allah is through honesty and humility. When a believer opens their heart to Allah with truthfulness, Allah never abandons them — He opens doors of relief and provides solutions beyond human imagination.

This verse also highlights the importance of preparation before undertaking any great task. Musa was about to face the most tyrannical ruler of his time, Pharaoh, who claimed divinity. He knew that this mission required more than courage — it required divine support, wisdom, and eloquence. Therefore, he presented his concerns to Allah first, seeking His aid before facing the challenge.

Dear believer, when you face difficulties or feel afraid of what lies ahead, remember the example of Musa. Turn to Allah with your fears, lay them before Him, and ask for His help. He is the One who turns fear into safety, weakness into strength, and obstacles into opportunities. No matter how great the challenge, Allah's power is greater, and His mercy encompasses all things. Trust in Him, and He will never let you down.

📜 Verse 31-35 — Al-Qasas

And [he was told], "Throw down your staff." But when he saw it writhing as if it was a snake, he turned in flight and did not return. [Allah said], "O Moses, approach and fear not. Indeed, you are of the secure.
Insert your hand into the opening of your garment; it will come out white, without disease. And draw in your arm close to you [as prevention] from fear, for those are two proofs from your Lord to Pharaoh and his establishment. Indeed, they have been a people defiantly disobedient."
He said, "My Lord, indeed, I killed from among them someone, and I fear they will kill me.
And my brother Aaron is more fluent than me in tongue, so send him with me as support, verifying me. Indeed, I fear that they will deny me."
[Allah] said, "We will strengthen your arm through your brother and grant you both supremacy so they will not reach you. [It will be] through Our signs; you and those who follow you will be the predominant."
