Word Meanings:

  • Waʿdan ḥasanā (وَعْدًا حَسَنًا): A beautiful promise — referring to Paradise and eternal bliss, which Allah has promised to His righteous servants.
  • Lāqīhi (لَاقِيهِ): He will meet it / attain it — meaning he will certainly reach and receive what was promised.
  • Mattāʿnāhu (مَتَّعْنَاهُ): We gave him enjoyment — the temporary pleasures, wealth, and luxuries of this worldly life.
  • Min al-muḥḍarīn (مِنَ الْمُحْضَرِينَ): Among those who are brought forth / summoned — i.e., brought to the scene of Judgment for reckoning and punishment.

Explanation of the Verse:

Allah poses a profound rhetorical question to awaken the conscience and sharpen the intellect: Is the one to whom Allah has made a beautiful promise — the promise of Paradise and eternal delight — and who will certainly attain that promise, equal to the one who has been given only the fleeting enjoyments of this worldly life, who indulges in them for a brief moment, and then on the Day of Resurrection will be brought forth for a terrible reckoning and punishment?

The answer is self-evident: they are absolutely not equal. The first person invested in what is lasting and true; the second person sold his eternal happiness for a handful of temporary pleasures that vanish like a mirage. The comparison is stark and undeniable.

This verse calls upon every rational soul to reflect: What is the wise choice? Is it to chase the glitter of this world that fades with every passing hour, or to strive for a reward that never ends — the pleasure of Allah and the gardens of eternity? The believer who keeps his eyes on the promise of Allah lives with purpose, patience, and hope. The one who is deceived by the world lives in a delusion, only to wake up on the Day of Judgment when it is too late.

The beauty of this verse is that it does not merely warn — it invites. It shows that Allah, in His infinite mercy, has already made the promise clear and guaranteed it for those who believe and do good. It is a promise from the Most Truthful, the One who never breaks His word. So why would anyone trade a guaranteed treasure for a fleeting illusion?

Dear reader, this is the moment to ask yourself: Which of the two paths will you choose? The path of those who will meet their beautiful promise with joy, or the path of those who will be summoned to a painful end? The choice is yours — and the time to decide is now, before the Day when no choice remains.

📜 Verse 59-63 — Al-Qasas

And never would your Lord have destroyed the cities until He had sent to their mother a messenger reciting to them Our verses. And We would not destroy the cities except while their people were wrongdoers.
And whatever thing you [people] have been given - it is [only for] the enjoyment of worldly life and its adornment. And what is with Allah is better and more lasting; so will you not use reason?
Then is he whom We have promised a good promise which he will obtain like he for whom We provided enjoyment of worldly life [but] then he is, on the Day of Resurrection, among those presented [for punishment in Hell]?
And [warn of] the Day He will call them and say, "Where are My 'partners' which you used to claim?"
Those upon whom the word will have come into effect will say, "Our Lord, these are the ones we led to error. We led them to error just as we were in error. We declare our disassociation [from them] to You. They did not used to worship us."
