Translation — Tafsir
Key Words and Their Meanings:
- Shurakā'i (شُرَكَائِي): My partners — referring to the false deities, idols, and beings that the polytheists associated with Allah in worship.
- Taz'umūn (تَزْعُمُونَ): You used to claim/assert — indicating a baseless assumption or false pretense, not a reality.
Explanation of the Verse:
On that awesome Day of Resurrection, Allah — Glorified and Exalted — will call out to those who associated partners with Him in their worldly lives, addressing them directly with a question that will pierce their hearts and silence their tongues: "Where are My partners — those beings you used to claim were My equals and associates in divinity and worship?"
This is a rhetorical question of rebuke and exposure, not a genuine inquiry. Allah knows all things, and He certainly knows that no partner exists alongside Him. Rather, the purpose is to make the polytheists confront their own falsehood, to strip away every illusion they clung to in life, and to show them — in the most humiliating manner — that the deities they worshipped, defended, and sacrificed for have utterly vanished. There is no one to answer for them, no one to intercede for them, and no one to share even a fraction of the blame. The idols they carved with their own hands, the saints they exalted beyond their rank, the powers they imagined in creation — all are gone, leaving behind nothing but regret and ruin.
This scene is a profound reminder that every soul will stand alone before its Creator. The false claims of partners to Allah — whether through worship, obedience, or love — will be exposed as empty illusions on that Day when no excuse avails and no helper remains.
A Call to Reflection and Faith:
Dear reader, let this verse awaken your heart today, before that Day arrives when questions are asked and answers fail. The polytheists of old placed their hopes in stones and statues, in beings that could neither benefit nor harm them. Yet here we are, in an age where many still place their ultimate trust in wealth, status, fame, or human beings — making them partners in their hearts, even if not in their tongues.
Islam calls you to a pure and liberating truth: that Allah alone is worthy of worship, trust, and ultimate love. He is the One who created you, sustains you, and will receive you when you return to Him. When you purify your heart from every false partner — when you say "La ilaha illa Allah" with sincerity and live by it — you free yourself from the shackles of dependence on creation and connect directly to the Creator of all things.
Do not wait until the Day when the question is asked and no answer can be given. Answer it today, in the silence of your heart, by submitting to Allah alone, loving Him above all, and living a life that reflects His guidance. That is the path of true success — in this world and the next.
