Key Words and Phrases:
- "Those who were given knowledge and faith" (الذين أوتوا العلم والإيمان): Refers to the angels, prophets, and sincere believers who possessed true knowledge of Allah and firm faith in His promises.
- "In the Book of Allah" (في كتاب الله): Meaning in what Allah has decreed and recorded in His eternal knowledge and preserved tablet (al-Lawh al-Mahfuz).
- "The Day of Resurrection" (يوم البعث): The day when all creation will be raised from their graves for judgment.
Explanation of the Verse:
On that momentous Day, when the disbelievers and wrongdoers will swear they stayed in their graves only for a brief hour, the response comes from those whom Allah blessed with true knowledge and sincere faith—the angels, the prophets, and the righteous believers. They will firmly declare: "You have indeed remained in the graves for the period that Allah wrote and decreed in His eternal knowledge—from the day you were created until this very Day of Resurrection. And here it is! This is the Day of Resurrection that you denied and mocked in the worldly life."
The wise ones will make it clear that this Day was never a secret or an uncertainty. It was written in Allah's preserved decree, announced by His messengers, and affirmed by His books. Yet, the deniers lived in willful ignorance—they refused to reflect, rejected the signs, and closed their hearts to the truth. Now, the reality stands before their eyes, and their denial has turned into utter regret and loss.
A Call to Reflection and Faith:
Dear reader, pause and ponder: these blessed souls—the people of knowledge and faith—were not merely scholars of worldly matters. They were those who combined learning with action, knowledge with certainty, and understanding with devotion. Their knowledge was not a burden but a light that guided them to Allah, and their faith was not a blind following but a deep conviction rooted in evidence and revelation.
This verse invites you to be among those who are given knowledge and faith. Seek beneficial knowledge that brings you closer to your Creator, and nurture your faith until it becomes the compass of your life. Do not be like those who knew the truth but turned away, or those who heard the call but refused to respond. The Day of Resurrection is certain—it is not a distant myth but a reality that draws nearer with every passing moment.
Make your life a preparation for that Day. Let your knowledge lead you to action, and your faith lead you to righteousness. For on that Day, the people of knowledge and faith will stand as witnesses to the truth, and their words will be a source of honor for them and a proof against the deniers. May Allah make us among those who truly know, sincerely believe, and steadfastly prepare for the meeting with Him.
