Word Meanings:

  • Yaqnut (يَقْنُتْ): To be obedient, submissive, and devoted in worship; to persist in obedience.
  • Min kunna (مِنكُنَّ): From among you (addressed to the wives of the Prophet ﷺ).
  • Nu'tiha (نُّؤْتِهَا): We will give her.
  • Ajraha marratayn (أَجْرَهَا مَرَّتَيْنِ): Her reward doubled — twice the reward of others.
  • A'tadna (أَعْتَدْنَا): We have prepared.
  • Rizqan kariman (رِزْقًا كَرِيمًا): A generous, honorable provision — referring to Paradise and its endless bounties.

Tafsir (Explanation):

This noble verse is a direct address to the wives of the Prophet ﷺ, yet its message radiates beyond them to every believing woman — and indeed every believer — who seeks Allah’s pleasure. Allah declares: *"And whoever among you is obedient to Allah and His Messenger and does righteous deeds — We will give her her reward twice, and We have prepared for her a generous provision."*

The meaning is clear and profound: any woman who remains steadfast in obedience to Allah and His Messenger ﷺ — not merely occasionally, but with constancy and sincerity — and who accompanies that obedience with righteous actions that are pleasing to Allah, will receive a double reward. This is a special honor granted to the mothers of the believers, the wives of the Prophet ﷺ, because of their unique position and the weight of their responsibility. Their good deeds carry multiplied weight, just as their errors would carry greater accountability — a sign of Allah’s perfect justice and His immense generosity.

The "generous provision" (rizqan kariman) mentioned here is nothing less than Paradise — a place of everlasting bliss, where no eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no human heart can conceive of its delights. It is a reward that never diminishes, a gift that never ends, and a honor that never fades.

A Da'wah Reflection:

This verse is a beautiful invitation to every Muslim woman — and every believer — to recognize that Allah does not waste a single deed. When you devote yourself to Allah and His Messenger ﷺ, when you strive to do good in your daily life — whether in your home, your work, or your community — Allah sees it all and rewards it abundantly. The double reward promised here is not limited to the wives of the Prophet ﷺ in its spirit; it is a reminder that Allah multiplies the rewards of those who are sincere, especially those who carry the weight of influence and responsibility. So let every believer take heart: your obedience, your patience, your good deeds are never in vain. Allah has prepared for you a provision that is truly generous — a home in Paradise that will never disappoint. Let this verse inspire you to increase in devotion, to persist in righteousness, and to long for that eternal reward that awaits the faithful.

📜 Verse 29-33 — Al-Ahzab

But if you should desire Allah and His Messenger and the home of the Hereafter - then indeed, Allah has prepared for the doers of good among you a great reward."
O wives of the Prophet, whoever of you should commit a clear immorality - for her the punishment would be doubled two fold, and ever is that, for Allah, easy.
And whoever of you devoutly obeys Allah and His Messenger and does righteousness - We will give her her reward twice; and We have prepared for her a noble provision.
O wives of the Prophet, you are not like anyone among women. If you fear Allah, then do not be soft in speech [to men], lest he in whose heart is disease should covet, but speak with appropriate speech.
And abide in your houses and do not display yourselves as [was] the display of the former times of ignorance. And establish prayer and give zakah and obey Allah and His Messenger. Allah intends only to remove from you the impurity [of sin], O people of the [Prophet's] household, and to purify you with [extensive] purification.
