Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- Attaqū Allāh: Fear Allah, be conscious of Him, and fulfill His commands while avoiding what He has prohibited.
- Qawlan Sadīdan: A right, truthful, and straightforward saying — speech that is correct, just, free from falsehood, and aligned with the truth in every matter.
Explanation of the Verse:
O you who have truly believed in Allah and His Messenger and who act upon His divine law! Be mindful of Allah in all your affairs — obey His commandments with sincerity and devotion, and steer clear of everything He has forbidden, so that you may protect yourselves from His punishment and earn His pleasure. And in all your words, whether in daily conversations, dealings, promises, testimonies, or judgments, speak with integrity and precision — words that are upright, truthful, and free from deceit, exaggeration, or falsehood. Let your speech be a reflection of your faith: clear, honest, and beneficial, for the tongue is a gateway to the heart, and what it utters either elevates you or brings you low.
A Da‘wah Reflection:
Beloved believers, this noble verse is a divine prescription for a life of success and tranquility. Allah, the Most Merciful, does not ask of you what is burdensome — He simply calls you to guard your relationship with Him and to guard your tongue. Imagine the peace that fills a home where every word is true, every promise is kept, and every statement is measured with righteousness. Such speech builds trust among people, strengthens communities, and draws the mercy of Allah upon you. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: "Whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day, let him speak good or remain silent." So let this verse be your daily reminder: when you speak, speak with wisdom and truth; when you remain silent, let it be for the sake of Allah. In this way, you will not only safeguard your own soul but also become a beacon of light for others, inviting them — through your character and your words — to the beauty of Islam. Indeed, Allah loves those who are truthful, and He has promised them the highest ranks in Paradise. So seize this opportunity, dear believer, and make your speech a means of drawing closer to your Lord, for every word you utter is recorded, and on the Day of Judgment, your tongue will bear witness to what you have said. Let your words be a treasure for you, not a burden.
