Translation — Tafsir

Word Meanings:

  • Ajramnā (أَجْرَمْنَا): We committed sins or crimes; the act of earning guilt or wrongdoing.
  • Tas'alūn (تُسْأَلُونَ): You will be asked or held accountable.
  • Ta'malūn (تَعْمَلُونَ): What you do or your deeds.

Explanation of the Verse:

O Messenger, tell those who oppose you and reject the truth: "You will not be questioned about the sins we have committed, nor will we be questioned about your deeds." This is a declaration of complete separation and innocence. Each person bears their own burden and will face their own accountability. The believers are not responsible for the misdeeds of the disbelievers, and the disbelievers are not responsible for the believers' actions. On the Day of Judgment, every soul will stand alone before Allah, and no one will carry the weight of another's choices. This verse establishes a clear boundary: we are not answerable for your disbelief, and you are not answerable for our faith. Our deeds are ours, and yours are yours.

A Call to Reflection and Faith:

This verse carries a profound message of justice and personal responsibility—a cornerstone of Islamic belief. It frees the believer from the anxiety of being judged for others' wrongdoings and reminds every soul that their salvation lies in their own hands. What a beautiful and liberating teaching! Allah, in His infinite wisdom, does not hold anyone accountable for another's sins. This is a call to every human being to look inward, purify their own intentions, and strive for righteousness, rather than wasting time blaming or judging others. It also invites the disbeliever to reconsider: if every person is accountable for their own deeds, then what excuse will they have when they stand before their Lord? The path to success is clear—embrace the truth, do good, and leave the rest to the Most Just of Judges. Let this verse inspire you to take ownership of your actions and draw closer to the One who knows all that you do.

📜 Verse 23-27 — Saba

And intercession does not benefit with Him except for one whom He permits. [And those wait] until, when terror is removed from their hearts, they will say [to one another], "What has your Lord said?" They will say, "The truth." And He is the Most High, the Grand.
Say, "Who provides for you from the heavens and the earth?" Say, "Allah. And indeed, we or you are either upon guidance or in clear error."
Say, "You will not be asked about what we committed, and we will not be asked about what you do."
Say, "Our Lord will bring us together; then He will judge between us in truth. And He is the Knowing Judge."
Say, "Show me those whom you have attached to Him as partners. No! Rather, He [alone] is Allah, the Exalted in Might, the Wise."
