Translation — Tafsir

Word Meanings:

  • Tawsiyah (تَوْصِيَةً): Making a will or bequest; giving final instructions to family or others regarding one's affairs.
  • Yarji'oon (يَرْجِعُونَ): To return, go back, or come back to a place or people.

Tafsir (Explanation):

When the Trumpet is blown and the sudden blast of punishment seizes the disbelievers, they will be overtaken by such terror and haste that they will be utterly incapable of making any will or giving final instructions to their families or loved ones. Neither will they have the ability to return to their homes and families. They will be struck dead right where they are—in their markets, workplaces, and daily engagements—without even a moment to bid farewell or arrange their affairs. This is a vivid depiction of the suddenness of Allah's decree and the helplessness of humankind before His command.

This verse serves as a profound reminder of the fleeting nature of this worldly life and the certainty of the Hereafter. How often do we delay repentance, good deeds, and reconciliation with our Creator, assuming we will have time later? Yet death can seize us at any moment—while we are busy with our trades, our gatherings, or even our plans for tomorrow. The disbelievers in this scene are deprived of even the smallest opportunity to set their worldly matters in order, let alone to repent and return to Allah.

Dear reader, let this be a wake-up call. The door of repentance is open for you *now*, while you still have breath and time. Do not wait until the angel of death is at your door, for then no will, no return, and no second chance will be granted. Turn to Allah today with a sincere heart, perform your prayers, give charity, and mend your relationship with your family and community. For the One who controls the moment of death is the Most Merciful, and He loves those who return to Him before it is too late. Seize this precious opportunity—for tomorrow may never come, but Allah's mercy is vast and His door is open until the very last moment of your life.

📜 Verse 48-52 — Yasin

And they say, "When is this promise, if you should be truthful?"
They do not await except one blast which will seize them while they are disputing.
And they will not be able [to give] any instruction, nor to their people can they return.
And the Horn will be blown; and at once from the graves to their Lord they will hasten.
They will say, "O woe to us! Who has raised us up from our sleeping place?" [The reply will be], "This is what the Most Merciful had promised, and the messengers told the truth."
