Word Meanings:

  • Al-Musabbiḥūn (الْمُسَبِّحُونَ): Those who glorify and exalt Allah, declaring Him free from every imperfection, deficiency, or attribute that does not befit His majesty.

Tafsir (Explanation):

In this noble verse, the angels declare: "And indeed, we are the ones who glorify Allah." This is a continuation of their description of themselves, following their statement that each of them has a known station in the heavens and that they stand in rows in worship and obedience to Allah. Here, they affirm that they are constantly engaged in *tasbīḥ* — glorifying Allah and declaring Him transcendent above any flaw, weakness, or imperfection.

The angels are pure, obedient creatures who never tire of worshipping their Lord. They stand in ranks upon ranks, never breaking their formation, and they continuously purify Allah's name from any association with attributes that do not suit His divine perfection. Their glorification is not occasional or intermittent — it is their very nature and constant state of being.

This verse carries a profound lesson for humanity: if the angels — who are sinless and ever-devoted — dedicate themselves to glorifying Allah, then how much more should we, as human beings who are prone to error and in constant need of His mercy, strive to remember Him, praise Him, and keep our tongues moist with His remembrance?

A Call to Reflection and Action:

Dear believer, when you read this verse, let it inspire you to join the ranks of those who glorify Allah. The angels are not the only ones who praise Him — every creature in the heavens and the earth glorifies Him in its own way, as Allah says: "The seven heavens and the earth and whatever is in them exalt Him. And there is not a thing except that it exalts [Allah] by His praise" (Al-Isrā': 44).

Make *tasbīḥ* a part of your daily life. Glorify Allah in the morning and the evening, before and after prayers, in times of ease and hardship. When you say "SubḥānAllāh" (Glory be to Allah), you are joining the angels in their eternal hymn of praise, purifying your heart from attachment to anything other than Him, and drawing closer to the One who is free of all imperfection.

This simple yet profound act of remembrance is a key to tranquility in this life and a treasure for the Hereafter. The Prophet ﷺ taught us that words beloved to Allah are: "SubḥānAllāh, wal-ḥamdulillāh, wa lā ilāha illallāh, wallāhu akbar" (Glory be to Allah, praise be to Allah, none has the right to be worshipped but Allah, and Allah is the Greatest). So let your tongue never be dry from glorifying your Lord, and let your heart find peace in His remembrance.
