Word Meanings:

  • "Innā" (إِنَّا): Indeed, We — referring to Allah, the Majestic.
  • "Kadhālika" (كَذَٰلِكَ): In this manner / just like that — pointing to the specific reward given to Prophet Nuh (Noah) mentioned in the preceding verses.
  • "Najzī" (نَجْزِي): We reward / We recompense.
  • "Al-Muḥsinīn" (الْمُحْسِنِينَ): Those who excel in doing good — those who perfect their deeds, worship Allah sincerely, and act with excellence in all aspects of life.

Explanation of the Verse:

After narrating the story of Prophet Nuh (peace be upon him) — how he called his people to Allah for centuries, endured their rejection and mockery, remained patient and steadfast, and how Allah ultimately saved him and the believers while drowning the disbelievers — Allah concludes this episode with a profound and reassuring statement: "Indeed, We thus reward the doers of good."

This means: Just as We rewarded Nuh for his patience, perseverance, and sincere devotion — saving him from the flood, granting him safety, and preserving his honorable mention among later generations — We reward every person who excels in goodness. The reward is not limited to Nuh alone; it is a divine, established principle that applies to all who do good.

The "goodness" (iḥsān) mentioned here encompasses two levels: first, worshipping Allah as if you see Him, knowing that even though you cannot see Him, He certainly sees you; and second, perfecting every action — whether in worship, dealings with people, or personal conduct — with sincerity, excellence, and the intention of seeking Allah's pleasure.

This verse serves as a source of immense hope and motivation. It tells every believer that no act of goodness — no matter how small — is ever lost with Allah. Just as Nuh's centuries of patient calling were rewarded with salvation and eternal honor, your own efforts in doing good — your prayers, your charity, your kindness, your patience through trials — are all seen and will be recompensed in the most fitting manner.

A Da'wah Reflection:

Dear reader, this verse carries a beautiful promise that should fill your heart with optimism and determination. Allah is not unjust to anyone; He does not waste the effort of any doer of good. The story of Nuh teaches us that even when the path of righteousness seems long and the opposition seems strong, the ultimate outcome belongs to the righteous.

So strive to be among the muḥsinīn — those who beautify their faith with excellent deeds, who treat others with kindness, who remain patient in adversity, and who dedicate their lives to pleasing their Lord. For Allah's promise is true: He rewards the doers of good in this life with peace and contentment, and in the Hereafter with Paradise and His eternal pleasure. Let this verse be a source of strength for you — whenever you feel your efforts go unnoticed or unappreciated by people, remember that Allah sees all, and His reward is the greatest of all rewards.
