Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- يُخْزِيهِ (yukhzeehi): A punishment that humiliates and disgraces the one upon whom it descends, stripping them of all honor and dignity.
- مُقِيم (muqeem): A lasting, permanent punishment that never ends and from which there is no escape or relief.
Tafsir (Explanation):
In this verse, Allah addresses the stubborn disbelievers who persisted in their arrogance and rejection of the truth. He commands His Prophet ﷺ to declare to them: "Work according to your own way and whatever state you have chosen for yourselves—worshipping those who deserve no worship and following your vain desires. Indeed, I am working according to what my Lord has commanded me—calling to the Oneness of Allah in all my words and deeds."
Then comes the decisive warning: "You will soon come to know" — that is, you will inevitably discover, whether in this world or the next, "who it is upon whom descends a punishment that humiliates him" — a chastisement that brings disgrace and shame in the life of this world, just as the disbelievers of Quraysh tasted humiliation at the Battle of Badr — "and upon whom settles an everlasting punishment" — a torment in the Hereafter that is permanent, continuous, and never lifted.
This verse serves as a powerful reminder that the outcome of one's deeds is certain. The one who follows falsehood will inevitably face humiliation in this life and eternal punishment in the next, while the one who submits to Allah will be honored and saved. It is a call to reflect: which path do we truly wish to be upon when the final reckoning arrives?
A Da'wah Reflection:
Dear reader, this verse invites you to pause and ask yourself a profound question: *Where do I stand?* The promise of Allah is true, and His warning is certain. No one who rejects the truth will escape the consequences, and no one who sincerely turns to Allah will be left disappointed. The door of repentance is open, and the mercy of Allah is vast. Do not let arrogance or stubbornness—the very traits condemned in this verse—keep you from the path of salvation. Return to your Lord today, before the punishment that humiliates arrives, and before the everlasting torment becomes your reality. Allah, in His infinite mercy, has given you this moment to choose wisely. Choose honor in this life and eternal bliss in the next.
