Key Words and Their Meanings:
- وُفِّيَتْ (Wuffiyat): Was paid in full, completely fulfilled, without any reduction or injustice.
- كُلُّ نَفْسٍ (Kullu nafsin): Every soul—every single human being, whether believer or disbeliever, obedient or sinful.
- مَا عَمِلَتْ (Ma ‘amilat): What it did—all deeds, whether good or evil, major or minor, hidden or public.
- وَهُوَ أَعْلَمُ بِمَا يَفْعَلُونَ (Wa Huwa a‘lamu bima yaf‘alun): And He is Most Knowing of what they do—His knowledge encompasses every action, intention, and secret, with no need for records or witnesses.
The Explanation of the Verse:
On that momentous Day of Judgment, when the earth and the heavens are transformed and every soul stands before its Lord, the perfect justice of Allah will be manifested in the most complete manner. Every single soul will receive its full recompense—nothing less, nothing more, and nothing overlooked. The one who did good, even the weight of an atom, will find it present; and the one who did evil, even the weight of an atom, will face its consequence. There will be no favoritism, no intercession that overrides justice, and no injustice whatsoever. The scales will be perfectly balanced, and every deed will be returned to its doer in full measure.
Allah, Glorified and Exalted, does not need any scribe to record deeds, nor any witness to testify, nor any book to remind Him. His knowledge is absolute, encompassing all that His servants did in the worldly life—whether they acted in obedience or disobedience, in secret or in public, in word or in deed, in intention or in action. Nothing escapes His awareness, not even a fleeting thought that crosses the mind. Therefore, His judgment is based on perfect knowledge, and His recompense is based on perfect justice.
This verse brings immense comfort to the believer: no good deed will ever be lost, no sincere effort will ever be wasted, and no act of kindness will ever go unrewarded. Even if people forget what you did, Allah does not forget. Even if the world ignores your sacrifice, Allah records it. And for the one who has wronged or done evil, this verse serves as a solemn warning: every wrong will be accounted for, and every sin will be met with its due consequence, unless one repents and seeks Allah’s mercy before that Day arrives.
A Call to Reflection and Action:
Dear reader, imagine standing before your Lord on that Day, with every moment of your life displayed before you. The verse tells us that Allah’s knowledge is perfect—so why not turn every action into a treasure for that meeting? Let this truth fill your heart with hope and motivate you to do good, for nothing you do is ever lost. And let it also awaken your conscience, so that you guard yourself against sin, knowing that the All-Knowing sees everything. The door of repentance is open now, and His mercy is vast. Do not wait until that Day when every soul will receive what it has earned—rather, race today toward His forgiveness and pleasure, and you will find that His reward is beyond your imagination.
