Word Meanings:

  • لَا تَعْلُوا (lā taʿlū): Do not exalt yourselves, do not act arrogantly, or do not become haughty and overbearing.
  • سُلْطَانٍ مُبِينٍ (sulṭānin mubīn): A clear, manifest proof, an evident authority, or an undeniable argument.

Explanation of the Verse:

In this noble verse, Prophet Moses (peace be upon him) addresses Pharaoh and his court with a message of profound wisdom and courage. He calls them to abandon their arrogance and pride before Allah—to cease their transgression, their refusal to submit to their Creator, and their oppressive treatment of Allah's servants. He warns them against elevating themselves above the command of Allah, for such haughtiness is the root of all disbelief and corruption.

Moses then declares: "Indeed, I have come to you with a clear, manifest proof"—meaning a decisive and luminous evidence that testifies to the truth of his prophethood. This proof was not a matter of blind claim or empty words; rather, it was accompanied by visible miracles and undeniable signs that left no room for doubt in the hearts of those who sincerely sought the truth.

This verse carries a timeless lesson for every believer: arrogance before Allah is the greatest barrier to guidance. When a person humbles themselves before their Lord, acknowledging His greatness and submitting to His will, the doors of mercy and knowledge open wide for them. But when one exalts themselves, turning away from the truth out of pride, they deprive themselves of the very light that could illuminate their path.

Dear reader, reflect on the beauty of this call—it is an invitation to humility, to the recognition that our true dignity lies not in defiance but in submission to the One who created us. The "clear proof" that Moses brought was not merely for Pharaoh's era; it is a reminder that Allah never leaves humanity without guidance. Every prophet came with evidence, and the final and greatest proof is the Qur'an itself—a living miracle that continues to challenge and inspire.

Let us, therefore, be among those who lower their wings of humility before Allah, who accept His signs with open hearts, and who find in submission true freedom. For the one who humbles themselves for Allah's sake, Allah raises them in honor—both in this world and in the Hereafter.

📜 Verse 17-21 — Ad-Dukhan

And We had already tried before them the people of Pharaoh, and there came to them a noble messenger,
[Saying], "Render to me the servants of Allah. Indeed, I am to you a trustworthy messenger,"
And [saying], "Be not haughty with Allah. Indeed, I have come to you with clear authority.
And indeed, I have sought refuge in my Lord and your Lord, lest you stone me.
But if you do not believe me, then leave me alone."
