Surah Ad-Dukhan — Verse 38

• لَاعِبِينَ (Lāʿibīn): Playing, jesting, or engaging in frivolous amusement without purpose or wisdom.

Tafsir (Explanation):

Allah, the Exalted, declares that He did not create the heavens, the earth, and everything between them—the stars, planets, seas, mountains, animals, and all that exists—in play or jest. Rather, He created them with profound truth, wisdom, and purpose. This creation is not a random act or a meaningless spectacle; it is a manifestation of Allah’s perfect power, justice, and divine plan. Every atom in existence serves a purpose, and the entire universe operates under a precise and deliberate system that reflects the greatness of its Creator.

The creation of the heavens and the earth is a sign pointing to the reality of resurrection, accountability, and the Hereafter. If this world were created in vain, there would be no justice—the righteous would not be rewarded, nor the wicked punished. But Allah, in His infinite wisdom, created everything with a purpose, and He will bring all of creation to a final reckoning.

However, most of the polytheists do not comprehend this truth. They fail to reflect deeply upon the universe around them because they do not hope for a reward nor fear a punishment. Their hearts are sealed, and their minds are preoccupied with worldly distractions, preventing them from recognizing the profound signs of Allah’s wisdom and power that surround them at every moment.

A Call to Reflection and Faith:

Dear reader, pause and look around you. Gaze at the vast sky, the mountains that stand firm, the oceans that flow, and the life that thrives in every corner of this earth. Can all of this be the product of mere chance or meaningless play? Absolutely not! Every creation of Allah speaks of His wisdom, mercy, and justice. This universe is not a playground—it is a purposeful journey leading to an inevitable meeting with your Lord. Let this realization awaken your heart, draw you closer to your Creator, and inspire you to live a life of meaning, gratitude, and devotion. For the One who created all of this with perfection is surely capable of bringing you back to life after death, to reward you for your good deeds and hold you accountable for your actions. Embrace this truth, and you will find peace in this life and success in the Hereafter.
