Translation — Tafsir

Word Meanings:

  • Jahannam: Hellfire, one of the names of Hell in the Qur'an.
  • Hal imtala'ti: "Have you been filled?" — a question posed by Allah to Hell on the Day of Judgment.
  • Hal min mazid: "Is there any more?" — Hell's response, asking for an increase in its inhabitants.

Tafsir (Explanation):

On the Day of Judgment, Allah will address Hellfire directly, asking it: "Have you been filled?" — a question that carries both solemnity and divine authority. Hell will respond, not out of arrogance, but with a tone of reverent inquiry: "Is there any more?" — meaning, it seeks more of those who disbelieved and disobeyed, driven by its intense anger and zeal in carrying out Allah's command. This exchange highlights the absolute obedience of Hell to its Lord, even in its thirst for punishment, and underscores the reality that Allah's justice will be fully realized. Some narrations mention that Allah will place His Foot into Hell, causing it to fold upon itself, and it will then say, "Enough, enough" — signifying that it has been completely filled with those destined for it.

This verse serves as a powerful reminder of the Hereafter and the consequences of turning away from Allah's guidance. It paints a vivid picture of the Day when every soul will face the truth of its deeds, and the fire itself will bear witness to the fulfillment of divine justice. For the believer, this is a call to reflect: Hell is not a distant myth but a reality awaiting those who persist in sin and reject mercy. Yet, the same verse invites us to embrace the path of repentance and righteousness, for Allah's mercy precedes His wrath, and His door of forgiveness remains open until the final hour. Let this imagery stir your heart to seek Allah's protection, to draw closer to Him through sincere worship, and to live each day as if it were your last — for the wise are those who prepare for the meeting with their Lord.

29مَا يُبَدَّلُ الْقَوْلُ لَدَيَّ وَمَا أَنَا بِظَلَّامٍ لِّلْعَبِيدِ
The word will not be changed with Me, and never will I be unjust to the servants."
