Key Words and Phrases:
- كَيْدًا (Kaydan): A plot, scheme, or deceitful plan intended to harm someone.
- الْمَكِيدُونَ (Al-Makidoon): Those who are outwitted, ensnared, or whose plot has recoiled upon them; the ones who are actually defeated and destroyed by their own scheme.
Explanation of the Verse:
After the disbelievers have rejected the truth and the clear signs brought to them, the Qur'an poses a rhetorical question to expose their futile intentions: "Or do they intend a plot [against you, O Prophet]?" This refers to their persistent scheming and conspiracies to undermine the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), to extinguish the light of his message, and to harm the believers. They devise their plans in secret, thinking they can outsmart the divine decree and halt the spread of Islam.
But the verse immediately turns their scheming back upon them with a powerful and reassuring truth: "But those who disbelieve—they are the ones who will be outwitted." Their cunning will not harm the Prophet or the believers in the least. Instead, their own plots will recoil upon them, leading to their own ruin and humiliation in this world and the next. Their deception is weak, and Allah's plan prevails over all plans. The Prophet is commanded to place his complete trust in Allah, for the ultimate victory belongs to the truth, and the schemers will inevitably fall into the very trap they set for others.
A Call to Reflection and Faith:
This verse is a profound source of comfort and strength for every believer. It teaches us that no matter how powerful or cunning the enemies of truth may appear, their schemes are utterly insignificant before the might and wisdom of Allah. The history of prophethood is filled with examples where the disbelievers plotted—from the attempt to kill Prophet Ibrahim (peace be upon him) to the conspiracies against Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him)—and in every case, Allah turned their plots into a means of their own destruction and raised the banner of His religion even higher.
So, dear believer, do not fear the whispers of the enemy or the apparent strength of their alliances. Their plans are like a spider's web—fragile and destined to collapse. Place your trust in Allah, remain steadfast upon His path, and know with certainty that the outcome is always for the righteous. The one who relies on Allah is never truly alone, and the one who plots against Allah's religion will only ever harm himself. Let this certainty fill your heart with peace and your steps with confidence, for the promise of Allah is true, and His help is near.
