And [of] Abraham, who fulfilled [his obligations] -

Translation — Tafsir

Word Meanings:

  • Ibrahim (إِبْرَاهِيمَ): Prophet Abraham, peace be upon him, the friend of Allah (Khalilullah) and the father of the prophets.
  • Alladhi (الَّذِي): The one who.
  • Waffa (وَفَّى): Fulfilled, completed, or perfectly carried out — meaning he fully discharged what was entrusted to him.

Tafsir (Explanation):

This verse refers to the scrolls of Prophet Ibrahim (peace be upon him) — the scriptures that were revealed to him — and it describes him with a profound and beautiful attribute: *"the one who fulfilled."* This means that Ibrahim, peace be upon him, completed and perfectly carried out everything that Allah commanded him to do. He did not fall short in any obligation, nor did he neglect any duty. He delivered the messages of his Lord to humanity with complete sincerity, patience, and devotion.

The word *waffa* carries a deep meaning: it is not merely about doing something, but about doing it fully, perfectly, and to its utmost completion. Ibrahim, peace be upon him, was tested by Allah with immense trials — leaving his family in a barren valley, being thrown into fire, being commanded to sacrifice his beloved son — and in every single test, he fulfilled what was asked of him with unwavering faith and total submission. He did not hesitate, question, or complain; he simply said, *"I submit to the Lord of the worlds."*

This verse reminds us that the path of faith is a path of fulfillment — fulfilling our obligations to Allah, fulfilling our promises, and completing our duties with excellence. Ibrahim's example teaches us that true faith is not just a claim but a commitment that is proven through action. When we read about his scrolls, we are being invited to reflect: are we fulfilling what Allah has asked of us? Are we completing our prayers, our honesty, our kindness to parents, our care for the needy?

The mention of Ibrahim here also serves as a source of hope and motivation. If a human being — a man with flesh and blood like us — could reach such a high station by fulfilling Allah's commands, then we too can draw closer to Allah by striving to fulfill our own obligations, step by step, with sincerity and perseverance. Allah does not ask us for perfection in results, but He loves to see us striving to complete what we have been entrusted with — just as Ibrahim did.

Let this verse inspire you to be among those who "fulfill" — who complete their promises, who finish their duties, and who stand firm in their covenant with Allah. For the one who fulfills, Allah grants honor in this life and eternal bliss in the Hereafter.

Or has he not been informed of what was in the scriptures of Moses
