Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- أغنى (Aghna): Made wealthy, enriched, or granted sufficiency and abundance of wealth.
- أقنى (Aqna): Gave possessions and wealth that one retains and accumulates as lasting property (qunya), or made one content and satisfied with what they have.
Explanation of the Verse:
This verse affirms a profound truth about Allah’s absolute power and generosity: "And that it is He who enriches and gives contentment."
Allah alone is the One who grants wealth to whomever He wills among His creation, providing them with ample provisions and financial means. He is also the One who gives people possessions and lasting property—wealth they accumulate, store, and take pride in as their own. This includes not only the basic sufficiency for daily needs but also the abundance that allows one to build, save, and secure their future.
The verse highlights two complementary aspects of Allah’s giving: first, enrichment—bestowing wealth and sufficiency upon people; and second, contentment—granting them the means to acquire lasting property and the satisfaction that comes with it. Both are entirely in Allah’s hands, and no one can enrich or provide for another except by His will. This is a direct reminder that all wealth, whether little or much, comes from Allah alone, and that He gives to whom He wills without any external cause or partner.
A Call to Reflection and Gratitude:
Dear reader, pause and reflect on this magnificent truth: the wealth you possess, the home you live in, the savings you accumulate—all of it is a gift from Allah, the Most Generous. He did not merely create you and leave you; He actively enriches you, provides for you, and gives you the ability to own and preserve what you have.
This should fill your heart with gratitude and humility. When you see your provisions, remember that they are from Allah alone, and let this draw you closer to Him. Thank Him for His countless blessings, and use your wealth in ways that please Him—by helping the needy, supporting your family, and spreading goodness. For when you recognize that the true Giver is Allah, your heart finds peace, your wealth becomes a means of blessing, and your life is filled with contentment that no amount of money can buy. Indeed, the One who enriches and gives contentment is worthy of all praise and worship.
