Translation — Tafsir

Word Meanings:

  • Amruna (أَمْرُنَا): Our command or decree concerning the creation of a thing.
  • Wāḥidah (وَاحِدَةٌ): One single word or command.
  • Kalamḥin bil-baṣar (كَلَمْحٍ بِالْبَصَرِ): Like the twinkling of an eye, or the blink of an eye—an extremely swift glance.

Explanation of the Verse:

This verse reveals the magnificent nature of Allah’s power and His absolute authority over all creation. When Allah intends to bring something into existence, He does not need time, effort, tools, or assistants. His command is but a single word: "Be" (Kun)—and it is. This happens with a speed beyond human comprehension, faster than the blink of an eye, which itself is the quickest motion we can perceive.

The verse emphasizes that Allah’s will is executed instantly and without any delay. There is no gradual process, no waiting period, and no obstacle that can hinder His decree. Whether it is the creation of the heavens and the earth, the resurrection of the dead, or the punishment of the wicked, all occur at His mere command. This is a profound reminder of Allah’s limitless capability, which far surpasses any power we know in this world.

A Call to Reflection and Faith:

Dear reader, ponder deeply upon this truth: the same Allah who creates and commands with a single glance of the eye is the One who watches over you, hears your prayers, and responds to your needs. If His command is so swift and effortless, then why would you ever despair of His help? Why would you doubt His ability to answer your supplication, to relieve your distress, or to forgive your sins?

This verse fills the believer’s heart with awe and hope. It teaches us to rely completely on Allah, for nothing is too difficult for Him. It also calls us to humility—recognizing that our own power and planning are nothing compared to His absolute sovereignty. So, turn to Him with sincerity, trust in His wisdom, and know that His decree is always perfect, timely, and just. Indeed, in His hands lies the destiny of all things, and His command is but a blink of the eye—swift, certain, and glorious.
