Surah Ar-Rahman — Verse 19

Explanation of the Verse:

Allah, the Most Merciful and the Supreme Creator, has released and set free the two great bodies of water — the salty and the fresh — so that they meet and flow into one another, appearing to the eye as one continuous expanse. Yet, despite this apparent meeting, He has placed between them an invisible barrier and a divine decree that prevents one from overwhelming the other. The saltwater does not turn the freshwater salty, nor does the freshwater dilute the saltiness of the sea. Each retains its own distinct properties, its taste, and its benefits, even as they touch and mingle at their boundaries. This is a magnificent sign of Allah’s perfect power and meticulous design — a harmony of opposites that continues without fail, century after century.

This verse invites us to reflect deeply on the wonders of Allah’s creation. The One who manages the meeting of two opposing seas with such precision, keeping them in perfect balance, is the same Lord who manages the affairs of your life, your heart, and your destiny. If He can hold back the saltwater from overwhelming the fresh, He can certainly protect you from what harms you and grant you what benefits you. So, turn to Him with trust and gratitude, for His mercy encompasses all things — and His signs are everywhere for those who ponder. Let this beautiful, flawless system of nature draw you closer to the Creator who designed it, and fill your heart with awe and love for Him.
