Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- Rizqakum (رِزْقَكُمْ): Your provision or sustenance; in this context, it refers to your share of gratitude for the sustenance Allah provides.
- Tukadhdhibūn (تُكَذِّبُونَ): You deny or reject; here, it means denying the blessings of Allah and attributing them to other than Him.
Explanation of the Verse:
This profound verse addresses a deeply ingrained human flaw: the tendency to respond to Allah’s countless blessings with ingratitude and denial. Allah, in His infinite mercy, sends down rain, provides food, health, and countless other favors—yet instead of acknowledging these as gifts from Him alone, many people attribute them to mere coincidence, natural causes, or even false deities. The verse specifically highlights the practice of the Arabs before Islam, who would say, "We received rain because of the rising of such-and-such star," thereby denying that Allah is the true Provider.
The verse challenges this attitude with a tone of astonishment and reproach: How can you take your share of Allah’s provision—which should be gratitude and praise—and turn it into outright denial? Instead of thanking the One who sustains you, you use His very blessings as a means to reject Him. This is the ultimate inversion of justice and logic.
This verse also serves as a broader warning: when the Quran is recited, some people dismiss it as mere poetry or magic, refusing to accept its guidance. Their "thanks" for the greatest blessing—the revelation of the Quran—is to reject it. This is the height of ingratitude.
A Call to Reflection and Gratitude:
Dear believer, pause and reflect: every sip of water, every breath of air, every morsel of food is a gift from Allah alone. He is the One who sends the rain, grows the crops, and sustains all living beings. When you recognize this, your heart naturally fills with gratitude, and your tongue utters praise. Gratitude is not merely a word—it is a way of life that draws you closer to your Creator and increases His blessings upon you. Allah says in the Quran: "If you are grateful, I will surely increase you [in favor]" (14:7). So, let your response to Allah’s gifts be thankfulness, not denial. Let your heart acknowledge His mercy, and let your actions reflect your appreciation. For the one who is grateful, Allah opens doors of abundance and peace, both in this world and the Hereafter. Turn to Him with a sincere heart, and you will find that He is ever ready to forgive, bless, and guide you to the straight path.
