Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- Al-Hukm (الحكم): Wisdom, understanding, and sound judgment in religious and worldly matters.
- An-Nubuwwah (النبوة): Prophethood — the divinely chosen status of receiving revelation from Allah.
- Wakkala (وكلنا): We entrusted, appointed, or assigned for its care and preservation.
Tafsir (Explanation):
After mentioning a long line of prophets — from Ibrahim, Ishaq, and Ya'qub to Nuh, Dawud, Sulayman, Ayyub, Yusuf, Musa, Harun, Zakariyya, Yahya, and 'Isa (peace be upon them all) — Allah now declares that these are the very people to whom He granted the divine Books (such as the Scriptures of Ibrahim, the Torah of Musa, the Zabur of Dawud, and the Injil of 'Isa), along with profound wisdom and understanding, and the noble station of prophethood itself.
Then Allah addresses His Messenger Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) with a comforting and reassuring message: "O Messenger, if the disbelievers of your people — the Quraysh of Makkah — reject these three great blessings (the Book, the wisdom, and the prophethood) and refuse to believe in the Qur'an you have brought, then do not grieve. For We have already appointed for this Qur'an a people who will never reject it — they are the Muhajirun (the emigrants), the Ansar (the helpers of Madinah), and all those who follow them in excellence until the Day of Judgment. These are the ones who will embrace it wholeheartedly, preserve it meticulously, act upon it sincerely, and defend it with their lives and wealth."
This verse carries a profound lesson: the truth of Allah is never left without guardians. When one nation turns away, another is raised to carry the torch of faith. The Qur'an was not sent for a single people or a single era — it is the eternal guidance for all of humanity, and Allah has guaranteed that there will always be a community that believes in it, upholds it, and calls others to it.
A Da'wah Reflection:
Dear reader, ponder the beauty of this divine promise! The Qur'an is not an orphaned book waiting for someone to care for it — Allah Himself has secured its guardians. Millions upon millions of Muslims across the centuries, from the companions of the Prophet to the believers of today, have dedicated their lives to this Book. They memorized it, studied it, lived by it, and spread it to every corner of the earth.
This is your invitation: be among those whom Allah has entrusted with His Book. Open your heart to the Qur'an, recite it with reflection, understand its meanings, and let it transform your life. When you embrace the Qur'an, you join a magnificent caravan of believers that began with the prophets and continues to this very day — a caravan that will never cease until the end of time. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: "The best of you are those who learn the Qur'an and teach it." So take your place in this blessed ranks, and let the Qur'an be your companion, your guide, and your intercessor on the Day when nothing else will avail you.
