Translation — Tafsir

Word Meanings:

  • Thaʿbān (ثُعْبَان): A massive serpent, specifically the male of the snake species, known for its enormous size and terrifying appearance.
  • Mubīn (مُبِين): Clear, evident, and unmistakable—something so apparent that no one can deny or doubt it.

Tafsir (Explanation):

When Musa (Moses, peace be upon him) stood before Pharaoh and his court, he did not merely argue with words—he presented a tangible, undeniable proof of his prophethood. At Allah’s command, he cast down his staff from his hand, and in that very instant, it transformed into a colossal, living serpent. This was no illusion or trickery; it was a real, visible creature whose sheer size and form left every onlooker in awe. The word "mubīn" emphasizes that this miracle was utterly clear and open to all—there was no ambiguity, no room for doubt, and no way to dismiss it as sorcery or deception.

This moment was a decisive turning point in the confrontation between truth and falsehood. Musa did not need to explain or elaborate; the miracle spoke for itself. The staff—a simple tool of a shepherd—became a living proof of Allah’s absolute power over all things. It demonstrated that the One who sent Musa could transform the ordinary into the extraordinary, and that no earthly power, not even Pharaoh’s might, could stand against the will of the Creator.

A Daʿwah Reflection:

This verse carries a profound lesson for every believer: Allah’s power is limitless, and He can turn the humblest of means into the greatest of proofs. When you stand for truth, Allah will support you in ways you never imagined. Just as a dry stick became a living serpent at the command of Allah, so too can your sincere efforts—no matter how small—become sources of immense good and guidance for others. Trust in Allah, rely on Him, and let your actions be a clear, "mubīn" testimony to His greatness. The miracle of Musa reminds us that faith is not about the size of our tools, but about the power of the One we serve. So, carry your "staff" with confidence, and let Allah transform it into a means of victory for His cause.
