Tafsir (Explanation):
After Prophet Musa (Moses, peace be upon him) had cast his staff and it transformed into a living, moving serpent before Pharaoh and his court, he then performed the second sign from Allah. He drew his hand out from his garment — whether from his chest opening or from under his armpit — and it appeared dazzling white, like pure milk, radiating a brilliant light that outshone even the sun. This whiteness was not a mark of disease or leprosy (which was known as "baras" in Arabic), but rather a luminous, miraculous glow that captivated every eye present. When he returned his hand to his garment, it reverted to its normal skin color, exactly as it had been before.
This was a clear, undeniable miracle from Allah — a sign that transcended the natural laws of the universe. It was not the work of a magician, for magicians rely on tricks and illusions that fade upon scrutiny. Rather, this was a divine act that struck awe into the hearts of all who witnessed it. Pharaoh, despite seeing this with his own eyes, refused to submit and instead accused Musa of sorcery, asking if he had any other tricks. But the truth was manifest: these signs were from the Lord of the Worlds, calling Pharaoh and his people to abandon their arrogance and worship the One True God.
A Da'wah Reflection:
Dear reader, ponder this scene: Pharaoh stood before a man who was once a fugitive from his palace, yet now Musa (peace be upon him) stood firm, unshaken, performing miracles that defied human capability. This teaches us that Allah grants honor and power to whom He wills, and that truth, no matter how long it is suppressed, will always shine forth — just as Musa's hand radiated light in the darkness of Pharaoh's tyranny.
The miracles of Musa were physical signs for a physical people, but our greatest miracle today is the Qur'an — a living, eternal guidance that illuminates hearts and minds. Just as Pharaoh saw the light with his eyes and still turned away, we must ensure our hearts do not turn away from the light of revelation. Open your heart to the Qur'an, let its verses purify your soul, and let its guidance lead you to the straight path. For the One who made Musa's hand white can illuminate your life with faith, hope, and success in this world and the Hereafter. Do not be like Pharaoh, who saw the truth and rejected it; rather, be among those who say, "We believe in the Lord of all the worlds."
