Translation Transliteration — Al-A'raf

وَكَذَٰلِكَ نُفَصِّلُ ٱلۡأٓيَٰتِ وَلَعَلَّهُمۡ يَرۡجِعُونَ ۝١٧٤

Translation — Tafsir

Word Meanings:

Nufassil (نُفَصِّلُ): We make clear, explain in detail, and expound thoroughly.
Al-Ayat (الْآيَاتِ): The signs, proofs, and revelations.
Yarji'un (يَرْجِعُونَ): They return, turn back, or revert.

Explanation of the Verse:

Just as Allah has explained in detail the signs and lessons from the stories of previous nations — what befell them when they rejected the truth and how His punishment descended upon them — He likewise explains and clarifies His signs and proofs to your people, O Messenger, in this Qur'an. He lays out the evidence of His oneness, the reality of the resurrection, and the consequences of disbelief and obedience, all in a clear and detailed manner.

The purpose behind this detailed exposition is not merely to inform, but to guide and transform. Allah desires that they may return — that they may turn away from their polytheism and false worship, and come back to the pure worship of Allah alone, fulfilling the covenant they took upon themselves when they acknowledged Him as their Lord. This return is a return of the heart, the tongue, and the limbs: from disbelief to faith, from ignorance to knowledge, from disobedience to obedience, and from heedlessness to remembrance.

A Call to Reflection and Return:

Dear reader, ponder how Allah, in His infinite mercy, does not leave you without guidance. He sends down His signs, unfolds His proofs, and repeats His reminders — all so that you may find your way back to Him. The door of repentance is always open, and the call to return is always being made. No matter how far one has strayed, the mercy of Allah is nearer. Every verse of the Qur'an is a light on your path, every sign in the universe is a pointer to your Creator. So do not delay your return; seize this moment, turn to your Lord with a sincere heart, and let His words transform your life. For He who detailed these signs for you loves nothing more than to see you return to Him — purified, guided, and at peace.

📜 Verse 172-176 — Al-A'raf

172وَإِذۡ أَخَذَ رَبُّكَ مِنۢ بَنِيٓ ءَادَمَ مِن ظُهُورِهِمۡ ذُرِّيَّتَهُمۡ وَأَشۡهَدَهُمۡ عَلَىٰٓ أَنفُسِهِمۡ أَلَسۡتُ بِرَبِّكُمۡۖ قَالُواْ بَلَىٰ شَهِدۡنَآۚ أَن تَقُولُواْ يَوۡمَ ٱلۡقِيَٰمَةِ إِنَّا كُنَّا عَنۡ هَٰذَا غَٰفِلِينَ

And [mention] when your Lord took from the children of Adam - from their loins - their descendants and made them testify of themselves, [saying to them], "Am I not your Lord?" They said, "Yes, we have testified." [This] - lest you should say on the day of Resurrection, "Indeed, we were of this unaware."

173أَوۡ تَقُولُوٓاْ إِنَّمَآ أَشۡرَكَ ءَابَآؤُنَا مِن قَبۡلُ وَكُنَّا ذُرِّيَّةً مِّنۢ بَعۡدِهِمۡۖ أَفَتُهۡلِكُنَا بِمَا فَعَلَ ٱلۡمُبۡطِلُونَ

Or [lest] you say, "It was only that our fathers associated [others in worship] with Allah before, and we were but descendants after them. Then would You destroy us for what the falsifiers have done?"

174وَكَذَٰلِكَ نُفَصِّلُ ٱلۡأٓيَٰتِ وَلَعَلَّهُمۡ يَرۡجِعُونَ

And thus do We [explain in] detail the verses, and perhaps they will return.

175وَٱتۡلُ عَلَيۡهِمۡ نَبَأَ ٱلَّذِيٓ ءَاتَيۡنَٰهُ ءَايَٰتِنَا فَٱنسَلَخَ مِنۡهَا فَأَتۡبَعَهُ ٱلشَّيۡطَٰنُ فَكَانَ مِنَ ٱلۡغَاوِينَ

And recite to them, [O Muhammad], the news of him to whom we gave [knowledge of] Our signs, but he detached himself from them; so Satan pursued him, and he became of the deviators.

176وَلَوۡ شِئۡنَا لَرَفَعۡنَٰهُ بِهَا وَلَٰكِنَّهُۥٓ أَخۡلَدَ إِلَى ٱلۡأَرۡضِ وَٱتَّبَعَ هَوَىٰهُۚ فَمَثَلُهُۥ كَمَثَلِ ٱلۡكَلۡبِ إِن تَحۡمِلۡ عَلَيۡهِ يَلۡهَثۡ أَوۡ تَتۡرُكۡهُ يَلۡهَثۚ ذَّٰلِكَ مَثَلُ ٱلۡقَوۡمِ ٱلَّذِينَ كَذَّبُواْ بِـَٔايَٰتِنَاۚ فَٱقۡصُصِ ٱلۡقَصَصَ لَعَلَّهُمۡ يَتَفَكَّرُونَ

And if We had willed, we could have elevated him thereby, but he adhered [instead] to the earth and followed his own desire. So his example is like that of the dog: if you chase him, he pants, or if you leave him, he [still] pants. That is the example of the people who denied Our signs. So relate the stories that perhaps they will give thought.
