Translation — Tafsir

Word Meanings:

  • "Dharni" (ذَرْنِي): Leave me alone; let Me deal with him. This is a stern address from Allah to His Messenger, indicating that the matter is in Allah's hands.
  • "Wahidan" (وَحِيدًا): Alone, solitary — referring to being created alone in the womb, with no wealth or children at that moment.

Tafsir (Explanation):

This verse addresses the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) with a profound and powerful command: "Leave Me with the one whom I created alone." The reference is to al-Walid ibn al-Mughirah, a man from the Quraysh who was known for his arrogance and stubborn opposition to the message of Islam.

Allah reminds us that this man was created alone in his mother's womb — with no wealth, no status, no children, and no power. He came into this world as a helpless, weak being, entirely dependent on his Creator. Yet, after Allah granted him abundant wealth, numerous children who stayed by his side in Mecca, and a life of ease and comfort, he turned against his Lord. He rejected the Quran, mocked the truth, and waged war against Allah and His Messenger — despite all the blessings he had received.

The verse carries a stern warning: Allah says, "Leave him to Me." This is not a request for the Prophet to abandon his mission, but rather a declaration that Allah Himself will deal with this arrogant man. No one can protect a person from Allah's punishment, no matter how much wealth, power, or influence they possess.

The deeper lesson here is timeless: when a person receives blessings from Allah and then uses those very blessings to fight against the truth, they invite a severe consequence. Allah does not need anyone to punish the wrongdoers — His power is absolute, and His justice is certain. The one who was created weak and alone will ultimately return to his Lord weak and alone, stripped of all the worldly advantages he once boasted of.

This verse also serves as a comfort to believers who may feel distressed by the arrogance and mockery of the disbelievers. Allah is telling us: do not worry, do not despair — leave the matter to the One who created them and knows their end. He is the Best of Judges, and His justice will prevail.

A Call to Reflection:

Dear reader, reflect on your own life. Every blessing you possess — your health, your wealth, your family, your intellect — is a gift from Allah. How do you use these gifts? Do you use them to draw closer to your Creator, or do you use them to distance yourself from Him? The story of al-Walid ibn al-Mughirah is a warning for all of us: no amount of worldly success can save a person from the consequences of rejecting the truth. But equally, no amount of past sin can prevent a person from returning to Allah in sincere repentance. The door of mercy is always open — do not let arrogance and pride close it for you.
