Translation — Tafsir

Word Meanings:

  • التَّذْكِرَةِ (At-Tadhkirah): The reminder, admonition, or exhortation — referring to the Qur'an and its teachings.
  • مُعْرِضِينَ (Mu'ridin): Turning away, averting, or shunning with deliberate avoidance.

Tafsir (Explanation):

What is the matter with these disbelievers that they turn away from the Qur'an and its admonitions? What has made them so averse to the reminder that calls them to truth, guidance, and salvation? The question is posed in a tone of astonishment and rebuke — for there is no rational reason for their rejection. The Qur'an is a book of mercy, filled with lessons, warnings, and glad tidings, yet they flee from it as if it were a burden, not a blessing.

Their state is likened to that of wild donkeys — startled and panicked — fleeing in terror from a lion. Just as those animals have no sense of the danger they run into or the safety they abandon, these people, in their heedlessness, run away from the very source of their deliverance. They do not pause to reflect, nor do they ask what they are fleeing from or toward. They are driven by blind stubbornness and arrogance, not by any sound reasoning.

The reminder (At-Tadhkirah) is not merely a text — it is a living call to awaken the heart, to cleanse the soul, and to reconnect with the Creator. Turning away from it means turning away from light, from purpose, and from eternal success. The Qur'an addresses every human being with clarity and compassion, yet those who are arrogant refuse to listen, and in doing so, they only harm themselves.

Da'wah Reflection:

Dear reader, pause and ask yourself: What is it that keeps you from the Qur'an? Is it busyness, doubt, or pride? The Qur'an is not an enemy to your freedom — it is the key to your true liberation. It does not burden you beyond your capacity; it lifts you beyond your imagination. Every verse is a door to peace, every chapter a path to mercy. Do not be like the one who flees from the very rain that could revive his barren land. Open your heart to the reminder, and you will find that it opens for you the doors of this world and the next. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "The best of you are those who learn the Qur'an and teach it." So take that first step today — read, reflect, and let it transform you.
