Translation — Tafsir

Word Meanings:

  • `Alaqah` (عَلَقَةً): A clinging clot of blood, a stage in human embryonic development where the drop of sperm transforms into a suspended, clinging substance.
  • `Khalaqa` (خَلَقَ): Created, fashioned, brought into being with deliberate design.
  • `Sawwa` (سَوَّى): Made it perfectly balanced, proportioned, and complete — giving it a harmonious and upright form.

Explanation of the Verse:

This verse continues the powerful argument presented in the preceding verses, where Allah addresses the one who denies the Resurrection and thinks he will be left without purpose or accountability. After reminding him of his humble beginning — a weak drop of emitted fluid — Allah now takes him through the next stage of his development: "Then he became a clinging clot, and [then] Allah created [his form] and proportioned [it]."

From that insignificant drop, the embryo clings to the womb, and then Allah — with His perfect power and wisdom — shapes it into a complete human being. He does not merely create; He perfects. He gives each limb its proper place, each organ its precise function, and each feature its balanced form. Nothing is left to chance; everything is measured, designed, and beautified.

This is not the work of random nature or blind evolution — it is the deliberate, intelligent, and merciful act of the Creator, who knows exactly what He is making and why. The same God who took you from nothing, from a mere clot, and fashioned you into a walking, thinking, seeing, hearing human being — is He not able to bring you back after death? Of course He is. The One who began creation is more than capable of repeating it.

A Call to Reflection:

Dear reader, pause for a moment and look at your own hands, your eyes, your heart beating within your chest. You were once a hidden secret, a tiny drop, then a clinging clot — and now you stand, read, and reflect. This is not an accident. This is a sign from your Lord, calling you to know Him, to worship Him, and to prepare for the day you will meet Him. The same power that created you from weakness will resurrect you from dust. So do not live as if you were left neglected — you were created for a purpose, and you will return to the One who made you, to be judged with perfect justice and rewarded with boundless mercy. Embrace this truth, and let it transform your heart into one that is grateful, humble, and hopeful in the embrace of its Creator.

📜 Verse 36-40 — Al-Qiyamah

Does man think that he will be left neglected?
Had he not been a sperm from semen emitted?
Then he was a clinging clot, and [Allah] created [his form] and proportioned [him]
And made of him two mates, the male and the female.
Is not that [Creator] Able to give life to the dead?
