Word Meanings:

  • Al-Zawjayn (الزَّوْجَيْنِ): The two kinds or pairs.
  • Al-Dhakar (الذَّكَر): The male.
  • Al-Unthā (الْأُنثَىٰ): The female.

Explanation of the Verse:

After mentioning the stages of human creation—from a drop of emitted fluid to a clinging clot, then being shaped and proportioned in perfect form—Allah says: "Then He made from it the two kinds: the male and the female."

This means that from that same weak drop of fluid, Allah—by His infinite power and wisdom—creates two distinct types of human beings: the male and the female. They share the same origin, yet they differ in physical constitution, biological role, and complementary functions. This diversity is not random; it is a deliberate sign of Allah’s creative mastery and a reflection of His profound wisdom in designing life.

The verse invites us to reflect deeply: if Allah can take a single, humble drop of fluid and turn it into two perfectly organized sexes, each with its own unique characteristics and purposes, then is He not fully capable of resurrecting the dead and bringing them back to life for judgment? Indeed, the One who originated creation from nothing is even more able to reproduce it after its end.

This is a powerful reminder of Allah’s absolute power and a direct answer to those who doubt the Hereafter. The very existence of male and female, with all their physical, emotional, and social complementarity, stands as living proof that the Creator is not limited by what seems impossible to human minds. The same Hand that sculpted the embryo in the womb will reassemble the scattered bones on the Day of Resurrection.

A Call to Reflection and Faith:

Dear reader, look at yourself and at those around you. You were once nothing—a tiny drop, invisible to the naked eye. Then Allah shaped you, gave you life, and determined your gender by His will. He made you male or female, not by chance, but by divine design. This precise creation is not merely a biological fact; it is a sign pointing to the greatness of your Creator and the certainty of your return to Him.

So, let this verse strengthen your faith and fill your heart with gratitude. If Allah could create you from such humble beginnings, He can certainly bring you back after death. Do not let doubt creep into your heart about the Day of Judgment. Instead, let every breath you take, every feature of your body, and every difference between the sexes remind you of the power of Allah—and prepare for that Day when you will stand before Him, knowing that He who created you with such perfection will not forget you. Indeed, He is the Most Merciful, the Most Just, and His promise is true.
