Translation — Tafsir

Word Meanings:

  • Bukrah (بُكْرَةً): The early part of the day, from dawn until sunrise, and it also encompasses the morning period.
  • Aseel (أَصِيلًا): The later part of the day, from mid-afternoon (after ‘Asr) until sunset; it refers to the evening hours.

Explanation of the Verse:

After commanding the Prophet (peace be upon him) to remain patient in the face of hardship and to submit to Allah’s divine decree, and to follow His religious commands without yielding to those who are immersed in worldly desires or excessive in disbelief, Allah instructs him—and by extension, every believer—to constantly remember His name and to call upon Him in prayer. The verse says: "And remember the name of your Lord in the early morning and in the evening."

This means: Persist in your remembrance of Allah and in your obligatory prayers at these two key times of the day. The early morning prayer (Fajr) is the prayer of the beginning of the day, while the prayers of the afternoon and evening (Dhuhr, ‘Asr, and Maghrib) are the prayers of the later part of the day. The command to "remember the name of your Lord" encompasses both the verbal remembrance of Allah (dhikr) and the performance of the prescribed prayers, which are the highest form of remembrance.

This verse beautifully teaches us that the believer’s day should be framed by the remembrance of Allah—starting with it in the morning and ending with it in the evening. It is a call to make Allah the center of our lives, to begin our day with His praise and to close it with His worship. This constant remembrance brings peace to the heart, strengthens faith, and protects the believer from the distractions and temptations of this world.

Dear reader, let this verse be a gentle reminder for you: just as the sun rises and sets, let your heart rise and set with the remembrance of your Lord. Make your mornings and evenings moments of connection with Allah, and you will find that He fills your day with light, guidance, and tranquility. The doors of His mercy are always open—knock on them through His remembrance, and you will never be disappointed.

📜 Verse 23-27 — Al-Insan

Indeed, it is We who have sent down to you, [O Muhammad], the Qur'an progressively.
So be patient for the decision of your Lord and do not obey from among them a sinner or ungrateful [disbeliever].
And mention the name of your Lord [in prayer] morning and evening
And during the night prostrate to Him and exalt Him a long [part of the] night.
Indeed, these [disbelievers] love the immediate and leave behind them a grave Day.
