Translation — Tafsir

Word Meanings:

  • "Sababnā" (صَبَبْنَا): We poured or sent down in abundance.
  • "Al-Mā'a" (الْمَاءَ): The water, meaning the rain from the sky.
  • "Sabbā" (صَبًّا): A pouring that is forceful, continuous, and in great quantity.

Tafsir (Explanation):

After inviting humanity to reflect on their food and how it comes to be, Allah draws our attention to the very first step of that miraculous process: the sending down of water. He says, *"Indeed, We poured down the water in abundance."* This refers to the rain that descends from the clouds with power and intensity, gushing forth to quench the earth’s thirst. It is not a mere drizzle or a light sprinkle; it is a deliberate, overwhelming outpouring from the heavens—a gift of mercy that carries life within it.

This single act of pouring water is the foundation upon which all nourishment is built. From this water, the earth splits open to yield grains, fruits, and pastures for both humans and animals. Think of the journey: a drop of water travels from the sky, soaks into the soil, and transforms into the bread on your table, the fruit in your hand, and the grass that feeds your livestock. Every meal you have ever eaten began with this divine pouring.

The repetition of the word *"sabbā"* emphasizes the ease and perfection with which Allah does this—He simply commands, and it happens. There is no struggle, no delay, and no failure in His system. The rain falls exactly when and where it is needed, in the precise measure required for life to flourish.

A Call to Reflection and Gratitude:

Dear reader, pause for a moment. The water you drink today, the food you eat, the very air that carries moisture—all of it is a direct act of Allah’s mercy. He did not have to provide for you, yet He chose to pour down rain from the sky so that you may live in comfort and ease. This is not a random natural event; it is a personal gift from your Creator to you.

When you see rain falling, let it remind you of Allah’s boundless love and care for His creation. Let it soften your heart and draw you closer to Him in gratitude. Say *"Alhamdulillah"* (all praise is due to Allah) for every drop that falls, for every plant that grows, and for every bite of food you enjoy. And if you have not yet turned to Him, let this reflection be your first step—because the One who pours down water from the sky is the One who pours down mercy upon those who seek Him. He is always ready to forgive, to guide, and to provide for you, both in this world and the next.

📜 Verse 23-27 — 'Abasa

No! Man has not yet accomplished what He commanded him.
Then let mankind look at his food -
How We poured down water in torrents,
Then We broke open the earth, splitting [it with sprouts],
And caused to grow within it grain
