Translation — Tafsir

Word Meanings:

  • Al-Yawm (فَالْيَوْمَ): This refers to the Day of Resurrection and the Hereafter.
  • Yadhakoon (يَضْحَكُونَ): They laugh, meaning they will mock and rejoice at the state of the disbelievers.

Explanation of the Verse:

On that Day — the Day of Resurrection — the believers who had faith in Allah, followed His Messenger, and acted upon His commands will laugh at the disbelievers. This is the perfect reversal of what took place in the worldly life, where the disbelievers used to mock, ridicule, and laugh at the believers. They would sneer at them, wink at one another when they passed by, and say, "These people have gone astray by following Muhammad." They considered themselves superior and the believers foolish.

But on that Day, the tables are turned completely. The believers, having entered Paradise by the mercy of Allah, will look upon the disbelievers as they are being punished in the Fire, and they will laugh at them — just as the disbelievers laughed at them in the world. This is divine justice: the mockers become the mocked, and those who were ridiculed for their faith are now honored and rejoicing over the downfall of those who rejected the truth.

A Da'wah Reflection:

This verse carries a profound lesson and a beautiful promise for every believer who faces ridicule, mockery, or belittlement because of their faith. Allah is telling you: do not be saddened by the laughter of the disbelievers today, for the laughter of the Hereafter is the true one, and it will be on your side. The mockery of the disbelievers is temporary and will vanish, but the joy of the believers in Paradise is eternal and will never end. So hold firm to your faith, be patient, and know that the final victory belongs to the people of truth. Allah never forgets the harm done to His righteous servants, and He will repay every single act of mockery with justice and honor. Let this verse fill your heart with hope and certainty that the Hereafter is the true life, where every wrong is righted and every believer is exalted.

33وَمَا أُرْسِلُوا عَلَيْهِمْ حَافِظِينَ
But they had not been sent as guardians over them.
34فَالْيَوْمَ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا مِنَ الْكُفَّارِ يَضْحَكُونَ

On adorned couches, observing.
