Translation — Tafsir

Word Meanings:

  • Yadhunnu (يَظُنُّ): Here it means certainty and conviction, not mere doubt or suspicion. In this context, it signifies knowing with firm belief.
  • Mab‘ūthūn (مَّبْعُوثُونَ): Those who will be raised up and resurrected from their graves for the Day of Reckoning.

Tafsir (Explanation):

Do these people who cheat and defraud others in weights and measures not realize with certainty that they will be raised from the dead? Do they not know that there is a Day when they will stand before their Lord, and every atom of their deeds—whether good or evil—will be brought to account? If they truly believed in the Resurrection, they would never dare to commit such injustices, for they would know that their actions are not hidden from Allah and that they will face the consequences of their fraud.

The verse strikes at the heart of human negligence: the failure to internalize the reality of the Hereafter. When a person truly believes that they will be resurrected and held accountable, their behavior transforms. They become mindful of their dealings, honest in their transactions, and fearful of oppressing others. The cheater who skims from others' rights does so only because their faith in the Day of Judgment is weak—they act as if they will never die and never be questioned.

This is a profound call to self-reflection: if you know you will meet your Lord, how can you persist in wrongdoing? The certainty of resurrection is not merely a theological concept; it is the very foundation of moral conduct. It instills in the believer a sense of responsibility, knowing that every grain of injustice will be weighed on the scales of divine justice.

Da‘wah (Invitation to Faith):

O beloved reader, let this verse awaken your heart! The One who created you from nothing is more than able to bring you back to life. Your Lord is not unjust—He does not let a single wrong go unaddressed, nor a single good deed go unrewarded. If you have ever been tempted to cheat, to take what is not rightfully yours, or to overlook the rights of others, remember: you will stand before Allah, and nothing will be hidden from Him.

Embrace this beautiful truth: the Resurrection is not a threat to frighten you, but a promise of hope. It means that every hardship you endured with patience, every honest penny you earned, and every kindness you showed will be honored by your Lord. Let this certainty fill your heart with peace and your actions with sincerity. Turn to Allah now, before that Day arrives, and let the belief in your resurrection be the compass that guides you to righteousness. For the one who lives with the Hereafter in mind has indeed found the path to true success.
