Key Words and Meanings:

  • Quri'a (قُرِئَ): Recited or read aloud.
  • Al-Qur'an (الْقُرْآنُ): The Holy Book revealed to Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).
  • Yasjudūn (يَسْجُدُونَ): They prostrate; here it signifies submission, humility, and obedience to Allah, including performing prayer and accepting the message with reverence.

Explanation of the Verse:

This verse poses a rhetorical, reproachful question to those who hear the Qur'an being recited yet refuse to bow in submission to Allah. After all the clear signs, proofs, and guidance have been presented to them, what could possibly prevent them from believing in Allah and the Day of Judgment? When the Qur'an—the ultimate truth and mercy—is recited to them, they do not prostrate, nor do they humble themselves, nor do they accept what it contains. Instead, their ingrained habit is denial and opposition to the truth, even though they know deep down that what the Qur'an brings is genuine. Allah is fully aware of the stubbornness they conceal in their hearts, the arrogance that stops them from yielding to His words. The verse serves as a stern warning: for such people, a painful punishment awaits. Yet, in contrast, those who believe in Allah and His Messenger, and who fulfill what He has obligated upon them, will receive an everlasting and unending reward in the Hereafter—a reward that is never cut off or diminished.

A Da'wah Reflection:

Dear reader, ponder this: the Qur'an is not merely words to be heard; it is a divine call to life, a light that illuminates hearts, and a guide to eternal success. When it is recited, the believer's heart trembles with awe, and their limbs hasten to obey—prostrating in gratitude, praying in devotion, and living by its commands. But what of those who turn away? They deprive themselves of the very source of peace and salvation. The prostration of the believer is not just a physical act; it is a declaration of surrender to the Creator, a moment of closeness that erases sins and elevates the soul. So, when you hear the Qur'an, let your heart soften, let your pride fall, and let your life align with its teachings. Do not be like those who hear but do not respond, for the Qur'an will bear witness for or against you on the Day when every soul shall be recompensed for what it has earned. Embrace it now, and you will find a reward that never ends—a paradise whose bliss is beyond imagination. The door of repentance is open, and Allah's mercy is vast; do not let stubbornness rob you of the greatest treasure.

📜 Verse 19-23 — Al-Inshiqaq

[That] you will surely experience state after state.
So what is [the matter] with them [that] they do not believe,
And when the Qur'an is recited to them, they do not prostrate [to Allah]?
But those who have disbelieved deny,
And Allah is most knowing of what they keep within themselves.
