Translation — Tafsir

Word Meanings:

  • مِن وَرَائِهِم (min warā’ihim): From behind them; meaning from every direction and angle, encompassing all that they do.
  • مُحِيط (muḥīṭ): Encompassing, surrounding completely; refers to Allah’s all-encompassing knowledge and power over them.

Tafsir (Explanation):

This verse comes as a powerful reassurance and a stern warning within the context of the persecution of the believers. After mentioning the tyrants and oppressors who tormented the faithful, Allah declares: "And Allah, from behind them, is encompassing."

This means that no matter how far the oppressors try to flee, no matter how cunning their schemes, or how hidden their conspiracies, Allah is fully aware of all their actions and has complete power over them. His knowledge surrounds them from every side—nothing escapes His sight, and nothing is beyond His reach. The word "from behind" emphasizes that even what they think is concealed or what they plan for the future is fully exposed to Allah. They cannot outrun His justice, nor can they hide from His might.

This verse is a profound comfort for the believers who suffer at the hands of tyrants. It reminds them that their oppressors are not free; they are trapped within Allah’s infinite knowledge and power. Every injustice they commit is recorded, and every wrong they do will be recompensed. The oppressor may seem victorious for a moment, but Allah’s encompassing power guarantees that justice will prevail, either in this world or in the Hereafter.

A Da’wah Reflection:

Dear reader, reflect on the greatness of this promise! When you feel overwhelmed by the trials of life, when you see falsehood seemingly triumphant, remember that Allah is behind it all—fully aware, fully in control. No tyrant, no oppressor, no enemy of truth can ever escape His grasp. This is the ultimate source of peace for the believer: to know that we are never alone, and that our struggles are never unseen. Islam teaches us to place our complete trust in Allah, who encompasses all things with His mercy and justice. So hold firm to your faith, for the One who watches over you is greater than any force that stands against you. And know that the final victory belongs to the righteous, for Allah’s promise is true and His justice is certain.
