Tafsir (Explanation):
These polytheists from your people, O Messenger, come to you not seeking guidance but testing you, asking with a tone of mockery and disbelief: "Is this punishment you warn us about really true? Will the Resurrection really happen?" They ask as if they doubt it, while deep down they know the truth but refuse to accept it.
So Allah commands you to answer them with absolute certainty and conviction. Say to them: "Yes, by my Lord, it is certainly true!" This is not a matter of guesswork or speculation. You are swearing by the Lord of the heavens and the earth that this promise is real, and it will undoubtedly come to pass. There is no doubt in it whatsoever, just as there is no doubt in the existence of the One by Whom you swear.
And then comes the powerful warning: "And you cannot escape Him." You are not beyond Allah's reach. You cannot flee from His power, nor can you frustrate His will. You are completely within His grasp and under His authority. He created you, He sustains you, and He will resurrect you. Your mockery and denial will not delay His promise or protect you from His justice.
Dear reader, reflect on the certainty of this answer. The Prophet ﷺ was commanded to swear by his Lord that the Day of Judgment is real. This is the same certainty that every believer must hold in their heart. The Resurrection is not a distant possibility—it is an absolute reality that will come to pass. And just as the punishment is true, so too is the reward for those who believe and do righteous deeds. So do not let the mockers shake your faith, and do not let your desires distract you from preparing for that Day. The One who created you from nothing has the power to bring you back, and He has promised that every soul will be recompensed for what it earned. Take this warning seriously, and let it transform your life into one of obedience and devotion to your Lord, for no one can escape Him, and no one will be wronged on that Day.
