Word Meanings:

  • ثَقُلَتْ (thaqulat): Became heavy, weighed down, or tipped the scale downward.
  • مَوَازِينُهُ (mawazinuhu): His scales (plural of mizan), referring to the balance by which deeds are weighed on the Day of Judgment.

Explanation of the Verse:

On the Day of Judgment, when the deeds of every soul are placed upon the divine scales of justice, the outcome for each person will be determined by the weight of their actions. This verse speaks of those whose scales are heavy—meaning their good deeds outweigh their bad deeds. This heaviness is not a matter of quantity alone, but of quality and sincerity: deeds performed with faith, righteousness, and devotion to Allah, as well as acts of kindness, charity, prayer, and obedience to His commands. When these virtuous deeds tip the balance, the result is a life of bliss and contentment in Paradise, where the believer will find peace, joy, and eternal reward. The verse sets a clear criterion: the measure of success is not wealth, status, or worldly power, but the weight of one's good deeds in the sight of Allah. It reminds us that every small act of goodness—an honest word, a helping hand, a prayer offered with humility—accumulates and can tip the scales in our favor on that momentous Day.

A Call to Reflection:

This verse fills the believer's heart with hope and motivation. It teaches us that Allah, in His infinite mercy and justice, does not overlook even the smallest good deed. Every act of kindness, every moment of patience, every effort to please Him is recorded and will be weighed. So let us strive to fill our scales with goodness—through sincere worship, compassion toward others, and steadfastness in faith—so that on the Day when all is revealed, we may be among those whose scales are heavy, and who are welcomed into a life of eternal happiness. Let this verse inspire you to never underestimate the power of a good deed, for it may be the very deed that tips your scale toward Paradise.

And the mountains will be like wool, fluffed up.
