Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- يُغَاثُ النَّاسُ: The people will be given rain and relief from distress; "ghayth" (غيث) means rain that brings salvation and goodness.
- يَعْصِرُونَ: They will press (grapes, olives, sugarcane, etc.) to extract juice, oil, or sweetness—symbolizing abundance and prosperity.
Tafsir (Explanation):
After the seven years of severe drought and hardship that Joseph (peace be upon him) had foretold, this verse brings the glad tidings of a year of profound relief and divine mercy. In that year, Allah will send abundant rain upon the people, ending their thirst and reviving their barren lands. The earth will flourish once more, and the people will find themselves pressing grapes for wine (though in Islam, we know the lawful use is for juice and raisins), olives for oil, and sugarcane for sweetness—signs of overflowing blessings and fertility. This is not merely a return to normalcy; it is a year of exceptional bounty, where the hardship of the past is replaced with ease, and the tears of drought are wiped away by the showers of mercy. The verse teaches us that after every difficulty, Allah brings relief, and His wisdom in timing is perfect—just as the dream of the king was interpreted by Joseph, so too does Allah’s plan unfold with precision and care.
Da‘wah Reflection:
This verse is a living reminder for every believer that no trial lasts forever. Just as the people of Egypt endured seven hard years only to be blessed with a year of abundance, so too does Allah promise that with patience and trust in Him, every believer will find a way out of their hardships. The Qur’an repeatedly assures us: “Indeed, with hardship comes ease” (94:6). Let this verse inspire you to hold firm to your faith during difficult times, knowing that the same Allah who controls the rain and the seasons is fully aware of your struggles. Turn to Him in supplication, for He is the One who sends the rain of mercy upon the earth and upon your heart. And when the relief comes—as it surely will—remember to thank Him and share His blessings with others, for gratitude multiplies the favors of Allah. This is the beauty of Islam: it teaches us to see hope in every trial and to trust in the divine plan, for after the darkest night, the dawn of His mercy always breaks.
