Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- Jahannam (جَهَنَّمَ): Hellfire, the deepest and most severe level of punishment in the Hereafter.
- Yaṣlawnahā (يَصْلَوْنَهَا): They will enter it and endure its intense heat and suffering; it encompasses them completely.
- Al-Qarār (الْقَرَار): The place of settling, resting, or abiding permanently.
Tafsir (Explanation):
This verse continues to describe the fate of those who exchanged gratitude for disbelief—those who rejected Allah’s blessings, such as the security of the Sacred Sanctuary and the sending of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) among them. Their ultimate destination is Hellfire, a place of utter ruin and destruction. They will enter it and be immersed in its blazing heat, suffering its torment without respite. Then Allah describes this abode with a devastating verdict: “How evil is the place of settling!” It is a dwelling of eternal misery, where no comfort, peace, or relief exists—only regret, punishment, and despair.
This serves as a powerful warning to humanity: the fleeting pleasures and misguided choices of this world lead to an everlasting punishment. Yet, in His infinite mercy, Allah has clearly shown us the path of guidance and gratitude, so that we may avoid this tragic end and instead strive for His pleasure and the eternal bliss of Paradise.
Da‘wah Reflection:
Dear reader, reflect on this profound truth: every blessing you enjoy—your safety, your health, your faith—is a gift from Allah. How do you respond to these gifts? Do you use them to draw closer to Him, or do you turn away in arrogance and ingratitude? The choice is yours, and the stakes are eternal. Allah, in His mercy, has not left you without guidance; He has sent His messengers and revealed His Book to show you the way to success. Do not let the temporary allure of this world deceive you into a permanent loss. Turn to your Lord today with a sincere heart, thank Him for His favors, and follow His guidance—so that you may be among those who dwell in the everlasting gardens of delight, far away from the evil abode of Hellfire.
